Christian Church of Burlington, KS

Christian Church of Burlington, KS Independent Christian Church We are a church whose history stems back to the Restoration Movement of the early United States.

We do not associate with a specific denomination, but adhere to three core principles to the Restoration Movement:

1. Biblical Authority - We view God's Law (Bible) above Man's Law (By-Laws). God's Word gets the first and last say in everything we do. Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; and where the Scriptures are silent - we extend liberty!

2. Methodology - We do Bible things in Bible Ways a

s much as possible. This means, because of the value we place on God's Word, we want to allow it to determine not only our doctrine (what we believe), but also our lifestyle (how to live what we say we believe).

3. The Unity of Saints - All of those covered by the blood of the Lamb should find unity in the authority and methodology of the Scriptures. We should unite together to model a unified Church that exalts Jesus who paid our sin's debt and set us free. Join us on Sunday mornings at 9:00 for Sunday School (all ages). Worship begins at 10:00; a nursery and Children's Church (Pre-K through 3rd grade) are provided.

DAY 1: You Are Salt
Matthew 5:13

You don’t become salt. Jesus says you are salt. Influence begins with identity. We all have influence somewhere over someone and how we influence others will depend on where we find our identity. If we place our identity in Christ we can have great influence for His Kingdom here on earth.

Questions:
Where has God placed me to preserve, bless, or flavor?
Where do I find my identity?
How does that determine my influence?

Prayer: “Lord, help me live as who You say I am.”

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” -Matthew 5:16

We had a wonderful acoustic Worship service this morning without power as Brandon preached over the next section of The Sermon on the Mount about being the salt and the light- what a timely message!!!

We may not have had power, but we all have the light of Jesus to shine to the world.

06/14/2026

We will be holding a 10:00 am worship service in the foyer for anyone who can and would like to attend. This will be a very basic time of worship due to the continued power outage.

There will be no children’s or online services.

DAY 6 : The Persecuted
Scripture: Matthew 5:10–12

Reflection: Following Jesus will sometimes cost us. Scripture is not silent on the subject of persecution for believers of Christ. Jesus tells us in this final Beatitude that His followers should ‘rejoice’ in insults and persecution because, although the earthly cost may be great, the heavenly reward is far greater!

Questions:
Where do I need courage to follow Jesus faithfully?
What hardships have I encountered for being a Christ-follower?
How does the promise of eternity help me face persecution?

Prayer Prompt: “Lord, strengthen me to walk Your way, even when it’s costly.”

DAY 5: Mercy, Purity, Peace
Scripture: Matthew 5:7–9

Reflection: These three traits reflect the heart of Jesus. Mercy toward others flows out of us because we have been shown such great mercy. Purity of heart grows in us as we grow closer to God and act with integrity. Peacemaking shows in our actions when we actively seek to heal broken relationships and bring reconciliation in our lives.

Questions:
Which of these three is God forming in me right now?
Which of these is most difficult for me?
How does remembering what Jesus did on the cross help me to develop these things?

Prayer Prompt: “Spirit, shape my heart to look like Jesus.”

DAY 4: Hunger and Thirst
Scripture: Matthew 5:6

Reflection:
Spiritual hunger is a gift. It means God is stirring your soul toward more of Him. Just as we must eat and drink to sustain our lives, we should have a spiritual need to be filled with more of God’s presence and teaching. When we become apathetic or complacent, no longer desiring more of God, that is a problem. The good news is that God will never leave us hungering for Him, He promises to always fill those who seek Him.

Question:
What am I truly hungry for?
Do I find myself longing for God on a daily basis, or being complacent and comfortable?
What are some ways I could stir my hunger for God’s righteousness in my life?

Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, increase my hunger for Your righteousness.”

DAY 3: The Meek
Scripture: Matthew 5:5

Reflection:
Meekness is strength under surrender. It is not weakness. It is choosing gentleness in a world that rewards aggression. It is putting down our pride and putting on humility. It is trusting God’s way instead of our own idea of how things should be. To be meek requires knowing God and His Word in order to stand strong on its foundation and submit to its authority in our lives. Jesus often modeled meekness by maintaining authority without using aggression.

Question:
How have I misunderstood meekness?
Where do I need to surrender control?
How does Jesus model meekness in the Bible?

Prayer Prompt:
“Jesus, teach me Your meekness.”

DAY 2: Those Who Mourn
Scripture: Matthew 5:4

Reflection:
Mourning is not despair- it is honesty. It is seeing the world as God sees it, broken and sinful, and allowing your heart to break with His. We don’t have to dread mourning because God doesn’t leave us alone in our grief. He promises to be near the brokenhearted and loves us enough that he sent His Son to cover our sins and heal our souls.

Question:
What brokenness is God inviting me to grieve with Him?
Are there areas of grief in my life that I am avoiding out of fear?
How might the promise of God’s comfort and healing help me trust Him in my grief?

Prayer Prompt:
“Father, comfort me as I bring my grief to You.”

DAY 1: Poor in Spirit
Scripture: Matthew 5:3

Reflection:
The Kingdom begins where self‑sufficiency ends, when we acknowledge that we can not do anything to contribute to our salvation. This is not weakness- it is the doorway to grace. It is the doorway to letting Jesus be the center of everything in our lives.
To be poor in spirit is to come to God with empty hands.

Question:
Where do I need to admit my need for God today?
Are there areas in my life where I try to earn grace?
Is there anything I need to lay down so I can be filled?

Prayer Prompt:
“Lord, I come empty. Fill me with Your grace.”
