The Lord Jesus Christ was reviled and murdered, because He said things that made Him very unpopular with the people (and certainly not because He was peddling some sort of cheap grace antinomianism or the therapeutic liberalism which is valued so highly by so many today). Despite their hatred, He continued to tell the truth, that some might hear and turn from their evil way, repent and ultimately be saved. It's no different today.
Few people want to hear the truth about themselves, about the life they've lived, about the consequences their choices have wrought on their current circumstances and outcomes. They'd rather blame someone else, or try to find solace in the tickling of their ears. Fewer still, after hearing the truth, will actually repent in such a way as to turn from their folly and pursue the pearl of great price alluded to by the Lord with everything they have in order to obtain it. People want to hear what makes them feel good, and that's what they seek out. They want something easy. They want something comfortable. And, in many cases, they will attempt to destroy or marginalize anyone who gets in the way of those things.
The tragic reality, however, is that many, many people (a great many of whom even currently attend church regularly) desire salvation, but only a few will actually find it. That's what the Bible teaches. If that doesn't terrify you, and motivate you toward greater obedience, greater repentance, greater faith, etc., it is because of your unbelief. The way is narrow.
Be zealous and repent, before it is too late.

"And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then one said to Him, “Lord, are there few who are saved?” And He said to them, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able." - Luke 13:22-24
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." - Matthew 7:13-14
