There’s something so powerful about literally praying God’s Word over you family. Here are a few passages that are powerful prayers you can apply to your personal life! Here’s an example of how we do this with our own families…

“Lord I pray that You would give my family the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. I pray that the eyes of our hearts would be enlightened so that we may know what is the hope of Your calling, what is the wealth of Your glorious inheritance in the saints,”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬-‭18‬

We will share more scriptures in our stories!

Do you ever get frustrated with yourself for needing to reset on something? Maybe it’s getting up early again so you can spend time reading your Bible… maybe it’s getting back to meal prepping or sticking to a budget. Often times, when I finally get the gumption to start again, I feel totally defeated. Sometimes that feeling will prolong my pursuit of what I know is best or right.

Recently, as I was driving around in my car worshipping, the Lord reminded me that he’s not mad at me when I need a refresh and when I commit to start again. He isn’t annoyed that I didn’t get it right the first time. He is pleased with my pursuits and with my conviction to turn back towards Him. Recently my pastor said something that really stuck out to me… “there’s nothing in your life that won’t need a refresh at some point. Nothing is started and lasts forever.” How empowering is that!? We all need a little check in from time to time, and usually that will mean that we need to reset one or more of our daily disciplines. God isn’t frustrated with us for that… He knows we’re human and that we get off track. He’s actually pleased by our pursuits of living a godly life and walking in the best that He has for us.

So today, let’s do a little check in to see where we’re maybe missing the mark… then, rather than allowing shame or disappointment to creep in, let’s bring that back to the Lord and receive His strength and wisdom to get back on track!

What’s something you want us to pray for you to have the wisdom and discipline to reset in your life?

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9

Peace is not the absence of conflict. Peacekeepers struggle to make everyone feel good and comfortable. They will even act as if conflict doesn’t exist to appear unified. Peacemakers actively pursue unity, making space for honest conversation and transparency. They don’t seek out conflict but they are not afraid of it either. They operate in the fruits of the spirit instead of being driven by their emotions regarding relationships.

I have always wrestled with this. If I’m not careful, my sincere passion for wholeness in my relationships and for everyone to feel loved, valued, and seen, will drive me to create a false sense of peace. I will embellish and try to generate unity that isn’t present, and will find myself in the middle of relationships that I was never meant be involved in. What I’ve learned about being a peacemaker is that a “maker” creates. It’s an active work that requires creativity, intention, focus, and dedication. A “keeper” is just trying to maintain - they’re never focused on growth or improvement. They’re shortsighted and trying to protect what they think is there, instead of being active to make room for real healing and true peace.

I feel like the Lord has been showing me lately that this is an important work to understand and purpose to walk out. Not only does Jesus say here that when you are a peacemaker His blessing follows you, but scripture also tells us that joy follows (Prov. 12:20) strengthened relationships follow you (Rom. 14:19) and sanctification follows you (Heb. 12:14) just to name a few. I believe everything begins in our personal lives and in our homes, and so choosing to pursue being a peacemaker can have a huge impact on my marriage and my relationship with my daughter and future children. If we have more kids down the road I will have done the work of making peace so that I am not merely trying to appease my children, but truly am creating space for them to walk in unity and actually be seen and loved. This is a good work that He desires to do in us!

How can you trade your habits of peacekeeping for peacemaking within your family?

You are loved, called, and equipped to do the good work that God has called you to do. Don’t let any voice or thought in your head tell you otherwise! Whether that is a working in or outside of the home, serving God in your singleness or marriage, mothering your kids or loving on someone else’s kids… He will finish the work He has begun in you! - Philippians 1:6

My “to-do” list is literally never ending. I’m not a full blown type A personality, but I do like my home to be kept and orderly. I personally feel more at peace when I can work and live out of a home that isn’t in shambles… then there’s the cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, taking care of Audrey, trying to have a social life, needing to get back to working out… Whew! Oh, you too??

It’s easy to allow our lists to get in the way of meaningful connections with the ones we love. Today I had a list in my head of things I wanted to do. I got to some of it, but I decided to get a $3 painting set from the Target dollar section. Of course Audrey asked for it right when we got home from running errands. Instead of setting her up by herself and buzzing around doing all of the things, I sat on the floor and painted with her. Time doesn’t always allow for that, and I’m the first to admit that messy crafts require a lot of mental preparation for me. But man was that time precious.

I suppose this is my encouragement to all of you mommas that sometimes feel overwhelmed with the check lists and keeping up. Our children are a treasure. Sometimes they require, and deserve, very focused and intentional engagement that will be lengthier and demand our full engagement. Often though, they’re just looking for our eye contact, for us to get down on their level, and to express interest in who they are and what they’re doing. We are building relationships with these little humans, just like we build relationships with anyone else. A little goes a long way!

What little ways have you been intentional with your kiddos this week?

Anyone else feel like sometimes it’s hard to let go of the control that comes with “my own understanding”? 😅 Here is your Monday reminder that you are not alone in the struggle. But we can do this! Let’s choose to start everyday with putting our trust in Jesus 🤍

Lord, as we wrap up our week, I know many of us feel like we missed the mark with You. We wanted to do more, read more, serve more, be better for our families… and while all of these things can be an act of worship to You, what you’re really looking for is for us to choose to sit at Your feet. Your desire above all else is relationship and fellowship with You. Help us to set aside the distractions and to love You this weekend. We know that in You is the life and strength to accomplish all that You have set out for us… but truly apart from you it all means nothing. Give us the grace and strength to choose You today and everyday.

“You’ve got too many voices speaking into your life.”

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had that conversation with young women over the years, and how many times I’ve had to remind myself of that. We’ve never had so many opinions, ideas, suggestions, and sometimes demands before us. Within five seconds of scrolling on Instagram I’m completely inundated with the voices of people I might not even know personally telling me their opinions on just about anything you can think of.

One rule I set for myself early on in parenting was not to use Google or social media first when I was struggling with parenting Audrey. Not only did I understand the power of mentorship and seeking wise counsel from godly women with experience, but I had also learned the danger of letting too many voices crowd my life and consume my thoughts in moments of decision making. My nature is to care too much about the opinions or judgments of others. I think that’s a struggle for most women. As I stepped into motherhood, I really tried to hone in on whose voice I was going to choose to listen to. My circle is pretty small, and boy am I grateful for that.

This past week was a small but important reminder of narrowing those voices. Audrey was sick and I adjusted my parenting to best serve her. Instead of researching everyone opinions on parenting, I chose to follow my own instincts and purposes to lean into the voice of the Holy Spirit. Even something as simple as rocking her to sleep for her nap two days is one way I choose to do what I felt was best instead of wondering what everyone else thinks is best for her. That may not seem like a big deal, but in motherhood we are faced with lots of little decisions every day; moments where we can choose to flood our minds with the voices of everyone around us (even strangers on our phone) or we can choose to follow the Holy Spirit and His wisdom, and listen to the people that are closest to us. If we start with the little things, we will have the confidence to follow His voice and trust the voices of faithful confidants in our lives with the big things. We have the power to choose the voices we listen to!
