There are more than 30,000 United Church of Christ members in North Carolina and the Tidewater area of Virginia. There is incredible depth and breadth in the doctrine and dogma of the churches in the Southern Conference. The three Associations of this Confe

rence are the Western North Carolina Association, the Eastern North Carolina Association, and the Eastern Virginia Association. My name is Jill Marie Haram and I am originally from Minnesota. I am currently a MDiv student at Campbell University along with a MID for the UCC. I serve in the Army reserves as a chaplain candidate with the goal of going to the active duty once ordained and done with school. My home church is the Congregational Church of Pinehurst in Moore County. I love long distance running, cooking, and playing dungeons and dragons. My favorite books in the Bible are the books of Amos and Ecclesiastes.

Rev. Dr. Alberta Wallace is a United Church of Christ clergyperson transferring from the Southwest Conference of the UCC to the Southern Conference/ ENCA. R.A.L.P.H. Coaching Ventures LLC (Rising Above Limited Perspectives Held)was authorized by the Southwest Conference as Rev. Wallace’s entrepreneurial ministry to enable coaching service to churches, organizations, and persons journeying life’s transitions.

After serving as a settled pastor in Yuma, Arizona for 5 years she kept hearing the Spirit saying, “there is more.” To follow the Spirit, Alberta entered doctoral studies at her alma mater Central Seminary (formerly Central Baptist Theological Seminary) in Kansas where she was reminded of her passion for crisis intervention work. Alberta’s first call to ministry is Social Work and her doctoral studies led her to focus on organizational development and coaching. This realization placed her on the road to Intentional Interim Ministry where she was able to walk alongside churches in transition in Arizona, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
The Spirit continues to say to her, “there is more,” and in response she asks the question, “how can we be prophetic leaders in these violent times?” Now, R.A.L.P.H. Coaching Ventures, LLC includes facilitation of “The Companionship Model,” teaching how presence, listening, encouragement, community connections and timely rebuke can promote peace and healing. Alberta’s “companionship ministry” also includes guest preaching to give respite to pastors and she continues to walk alongside/ coach groups and faith communities in transition. She has been blessed with a voice for exhortation and has trained to be a voice actor. Alberta always hears, “there is more,” for the Spirit is always speaking. Alberta and her beloved, Wendy are members of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ.

How Far Are You Leaning? - Lack of resources, under-appreciation, and burnout are not new phenomena within the church. How do you prepare for these inevitable ministry experiences? Let's lean in together and learn ways to support ourselves and model ministry that supports each other.

Rev. Martha Brown is a board-certified chaplain currently serving at a state psychiatric hospital. As a staff chaplain she has mentored chaplain residents and interns. Chaplain Brown is a certified core communication instructor. Brown is the founder of iplanned4marriage, a business focused on teaching effective interpersonal communication skills to couples. Committed to play as much as work, Chaplain Brown enjoys traveling, documenting family stories, and exploring new hobbies.
Stop the Violence - October was first declared as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989. Since then, October has been a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims and victors. How does the church respond? Reverend Roberson has completed the State’s Domestic Violence Policy and Best Practices Course and is delighted to participate in this discussion with you.

Saved To Serve: Unwrapping Your Spiritual Gifts - What makes me vital to the kingdom of God? What spiritual gifts lay dormant inside me that will bring glory to God? How do I activate them? These are questions that our youth should be able to answer in order to live out their purpose in God. This workshop will challenge them to discover what makes each of them unique and provide insight into these questions so that they can tap into their spiritual gifts and grow in their relationship with Christ.
