In January 2010, the entire world watched as a devastating earthquake ravaged Haiti. Baxter, pastor of Cathedral of Love Community Church in Willingboro, N.J., was overcome with grief, as he witnessed the virtual destruction of the tiny island nation. With a history of providing aid to those in need, Pastor Baxter and the Cathedral of Love did not hesitate to reach out to help the people of Haiti.

Leath of Destiny Family Worship Center, also in Willingboro, N.J., had also provided aid to support Haiti relief efforts. But both pastors knew that the people of Haiti needed more. In the spring of 2010, Pastor Baxter and Pastor Leath met to discuss ways to raise money to fund ongoing relief efforts in Haiti. That meeting of the minds led to the formation of Compassion in Action New Jersey, Inc. (CNANJ), a Christ-centered, philanthropic organization that will offer assistance to ease the suffering of the world’s most vulnerable victims of tragedy anywhere. CNANJ’s INAUGURAL ACTIVITY will be the Burlington County Haiti and Save Africa’s Children Relief Benefit. The event, which is scheduled for 7 p.m., Friday, March 4, 2011, will be held at The Enterprise Center at Burlington County College on Route 38 in Mt. Laurel, N.J. 08054. Through the March 4 benefit, online fundraising tools, and other giving programs, CNANJ hopes to raise $30,000, which will be split between two groups: Christian Haitian Outreach, an orphanage and school a little over six miles west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the epicenter of the violent quakes last year; and Save Africa’s Children, an organization that funds HIV/AIDS education and training, healthcare, emergency relief, and infrastructure development in more than 20 African countries. The benefit will feature a keynote address from international speaker Bishop Charles E. Blake, presiding bishop of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), one of the nation’s largest denominations, and founder of Save Africa’s Children. Lonnie Hunter of Praise 103.9-FM will be our guest emcee. Musical entertainment will be provided by “ONE FLESH” and THE COMMPASSION CHOIR, made up of 50-plus community members who have donated their time and talent to be "joy bearers" for this momentous event. For more information or to make a donation to CNANJ, call 609-835-4141 or visit www.CNANJ.org.

The members and partners of Compassion in Action New Jersey celebrate the life and legacy of our co-founder, the honorable Bishop MK Baxter. His life has touched hundreds of thousands of people in this nation.

Under his leadership Compassion was able to raise over $16,000 to support Save Africa’s Children(under the leadership of Bishop Charles Blake) and Haitian Relief. Bishop was active in various outreach and support efforts.

We will miss the leadership, guidance, and love you have shown but know that we will continue to live out the mission of helping others…just as you started.

We love you and will miss you. Rest in heaven.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL - DAY 17 - I HAVE ABILITIES

“I can do all things through Christ ” - Philippians 4:13

I am not helpless, hopeless, powerless, visionless, ineffective, or insufficient. I am helpful, powerful, effective and sufficient. I am capable of accomplishing what God commands of me because I am covered by His grace (Phil 2:13). I am not a quitter, I am a finisher. I finish my assignments, I do them with joy, patience, excellence and humility. I don’t half-step I whole-step. I am unstoppable. I am not discouraged, I am encouraged, I am flexible, I am open to change, I am open to new ideas. Because Jesus lives in me - I can love like Jesus, I can serve like Jesus, I can
persevere like Jesus, I can submit like Jesus, I can give like Jesus, I can live like Jesus! I can do all things through Christ who give me the strength. The joy of the Lord gives me strength. What brings God joy, strengthens me (Nehemiah 8:10b).

My condolences go out to the faith community in Charleston, South Carolina, the spiritual family of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the family of pastor and senator Clementa Pinckney, and the 8 church members who lost their lives in this senseless act of hatred.
Now, more than ever, is the time for believers to come together and renounce racial hatred in our nation. I believe we have a biblical mandate to fight against injustice in our world. The more and more we see events like this happening, we are forced to realize that while we've come along way, we still have a long way to go.
Racism will not just go away, we have to fight it when and wherever we see it. There is a quite and unsettling sentiment that is brewing beneath the surface in our nation. Some believe it is useless to "hash up old wounds" because it just seems to get us no where, however, I believe, "in Christ" we can open the much needed dialogue and begin to face real problems that many people of color face.
Dr. Stanley Hearst, Pastor of Bethel AME Church, Moorestown, at our initial subcommittee meeting on Race in Moorestown said, "Black people live in two worlds". This is true. Now is the time for us to take advantage of the opportunities that life is presenting us to talk, share, listen and ultimately hear our land.
I am asking all Clergy to hold a Moment of Silence this Sunday, June 21st, 2015, during your regular worship services to remember our fallen brothers and sisters in Charleston, South Carolina.

(PS. As a father, I am saddened at the loss that Pastor's Pinckney's wife and two children will have to face as well as the other families who lost loved ones. As a black man, I am saddened that there are still people in this world who harbor such bitterness and hatred for people of color and are willing to kill because of it. As a pastor, I am saddened and angered that Emanuel AME Church church has lost it's spiritual leader and other faithful and committed members. But as a believer, I am hopeful that "in Christ", we can and will see true reconciliation among all God's children regardless of the color of our skin but because of the love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.)
