As war unfolds between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, we share this message in solidarity with those in harm’s way and in deep concern for the path ahead. Please read the URJ’s statement.

At this perilous moment, we stand in solidarity with our Israeli siblings – including soldiers of the IDF – American service members, and all innocent civilians throughout the region who are in harm’s way.

For generations, the Reform Movement has affirmed immigration policies that are fair and compassionate, rooted in the understanding that the United States has always been shaped by immigrants. As Jews, shaped by our own history of displacement and the search for safety, our tradition calls on us to welcome those seeking safety and to resist systems that harm human beings. Secure borders and orderly immigration processes matter, and so do dignity, due process, and honoring this country’s commitments to refugees and asylum seekers. These values are meant to exist together.

We are troubled by what we are witnessing now. Civil rights violations, aggressive enforcement, harm to protesters, family separations, and deaths connected to ICE enforcement continue to raise serious concerns. Without accountability, these incidents erode trust and undermine the freedoms they aim to protect. We are paying close attention and reflecting on what this moment asks of us.

We invite you to read this Joint Statement on ICE Actions from the Union for Reform Judaism, the Central Conference of American Rabbis, and the American Conference of Cantors, which articulates these concerns and the values that guide our response.

We remain committed to approaching these issues in a way that reflects who we are and our responsibility to one another and to the broader community.
