Accotink Takes Action joined Third Act on Thursday, Sept 18th in DC to Mourn the Loss of EPA. We wore black, walked slowly behind bagpipes playing, and staged an 8 minute death in front of the EPA. Note folks in burlap with signs about our loses. Powerful!

Accotink Takes Action was a strong force in showing support for Immigrants at the Fairfax Co. Board of Supervisors meeting this week. We stood wearing small signs to indicate that we wanted the county to stay with their Trust promise to cooperate with ICE only when required by law.

Accotink Takes Action joined Indivisible to post slogans over the beltway near Wakefield Rec Center last Wednesday. Join us there next time, Monday, September 1st 10:00 to 12:30.

Accotink Takes Action suffered the rain on Friday to support GMU’s President. A number of Accotinkers also sent emails. We later learned that Dr. Washington is keeping his job and got a small raise. Success!

On Monday May 12, several members and friends attended the Congressional hearing to defund Medicaid… in order to give a tax break to the rich. It’s Time for Moral Courage!!!!

Accotink Takes Action was at the Supreme Court on Thursday. Media was everywhere, and a couple of us were interviewed. Various legislators spoke, including Representatives Jamie Raskin and Nancy Pelosi.

Accotink Takes Action was at the House Triangle for an ACLU press conference on Tuesday May 6th marking the Annual Community Safety Week. We then delivered information to legislators regarding 2 bipartisan bills - Mental Health Justice Act and Driving for Opportunity Act.

Mental Justice is funding for mobile crisis response units, substance abuse intervention, and related issues. Driving for Opportunity eliminates debt-based driver's license suspension.

One of the highlights of the May Day protest in DC was a large replica of the U.S. Constitution. Protesters were invited to add their names to the tail. Accotink Take Action folks were able to reach a few congregants who are not able to travel to the district. They were happy to give their permission to add their names. Many volunteers helped carry the large document to the White House.

Yesterday Accotink Takes Action (ATA) was at the Supreme Court for Moral Monday speeches by Repairers of the Breech. We discovered the steps in front of the Capitol was closed. Some folks said that this was because of us. Leaders of Repairers of the Breech walked into the Capitol through the visitors entrance. We were told that five of them were praying in the rotunda, refused to move on, and after other visitors were removed from the area, the leaders were arrested. ATA then delivered a letter to our congressman asking for a meeting of leaders of Repairers of the Breech and leaders in Congress. There will be more Moral Mondays. Not sure if the next one will be this coming Monday or the first Monday in June.
