Happy Mother's Day! We were blessed in worship at Harmony - A Progressive Faith Community as Rev. Sam B. Kim preached from 2 Peter 3:8-10; 14-15 as part of his sermon series "Clothed in Love: Coffee, Community, and Harmony" based on Colossians 3:12-14. Each week he has challenged us to try on one of the virtues listed in the passage of scripture. This week, we were challenged to try on the virtue of "Patience."
He began with a story of a road trip with his kids when they were younger asking "Are we there yet?" He says it's not just a child's question, it's a human question. "We live in a world that invented fast food, a world that created speed dating, a world that created same day delivery...God doesn't experience time the way we do." He challenged us to look to mothers and mother figures for patience telling the story of Susanna Wesley, mother of Methodism's founder John Wesley, who had 19 children with 10 surviving. Rev. Sam celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the ordination of women in the UMC and praised our own Bishop Mary Ann Swenson as a trailblazer.
As he closed he asked, "Are we there yet in our faith, our lives, and in our world?...Not yet, but we are on our way."
Christine Tzeng blessed the mothers with plants to celebrate Mother's Day!.
Join us next Sunday as the series concludes with "Love." We meet at 10:30 a.m. on the 3rd Floor in the Education Building of Glendale First United Methodist Church in Room 340. Join us for spirit-filled worship and fellowship!
