The Divine Liturgy occurred on Sunday at St. Paul Armenian Apostolic Church, Fresno, with the celebrant, Very Rev. Fr. Yeremia Abgaryan. Our ACYO members and their families joined in celebrating the Divine Liturgy, serving as choir members, altar servers, and congregants in the pews. During Hayr Surp’s sermon to the congregation, he spoke about the mission of the youth of our Church, emphasizing that just as athletes train and develop discipline, Christians are called to strengthen their spiritual character through faith and holy living. “Be Holy, for I am Holy.” Through forgiveness, perseverance, humility, and devotion to God, we strive to reflect Christ in every area of our lives.

In the afternoon, the championship games featured the strongest teams competing for the first-place trophy in their respective sports. Athletes and families participated in the championships with a positive attitude and good sportsmanship, keeping up our Christian values within the body of Christ. At night, clergy, athletes, parents, and friends all joined together at St. Paul Armenian Apostolic Church for a sold-out banquet featuring amazing music by DJ Dion with Good Times Entertainment and delicious food from Alla’s Mediterranean Armenian Restaurant. We thank God for allowing this weekend to happen and thank you to all in attendance for their support and participation.

After the beautiful intermission, our DJs announced the winners of the 60th Annual Sports Weekend. The champions continued the tradition of taking victory pictures with their awards and our amazing clergy —
Very Rev. Fr. Yeremia Abgaryan, Rev. Fr. Gomidas Zohrabian, Rev. Fr. Gevork Abyan, Fr. Mesrop Ash, Fr. Krikor Zakaryan, Fr. Isaiah Bedros, and Archpriest Fr. Sarkis Petoyan.

✨ Leadership & Cultural Weekend ✨

Get ready for an inspiring and immersive gathering! Join the ACYO-WD Central Council and St. Mary Costa Mesa for an incredible weekend dedicated to growth, community, and culture!

🗓 When: September 5–6, 2026
📍 Where: St. Mary Costa Mesa Armenian Apostolic Church (148 22nd St, Costa Mesa, CA 92627)
💸 Admission: Free and open to ALL ACYO-WD members!

We’ll be diving into impactful leadership discussions and hands-on workshops, paired with cultural activities including icon painting, ceramic crafting, Armenian dances and Bible discussions. To wrap up the weekend St. Mary will be hosting a lock-in at the church which will be followed by Divine Liturgy the next morning, with Hye Camp reunion beach party afterwards.

ACYO-WD Sports Weekend Tournaments began on Saturday as over 200 registered participants gathered their teams to start their first games.

With high spirits and motivation for the games, passionate participants engaged in our basketball, volleyball, soccer, dodgeball, tennis, ping pong, tavloo, and chess tournaments, spectated by supportive families and clergy, along with our ACYO Central Council.

As the Saturday games ended, we kept the fun going back at St. Paul, where Fr. Avedis Abovian grilled up delicious burgers. Members continued their fellowship and sporty environment with good food, great conversations, and amazing electric guitar performances by Arthur Petrosian in the courtyard!

The Armenian Church Youth Organization of the Western Diocese held its 60th Annual Sports Weekend on Memorial Day Weekend, 05/22 - 5/24/26, at Madera South High School, under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian and joined by the previous and current Youth Directors of the Western Diocese, Very Rev. Fr. Yeremia Abgaryan & Fr. Avedis Abovian.

The Annual Sports Weekend is a weekend filled with excitement as our ACYO members and their families from across the Western Diocese prepare to compete in a multitude of team and individual sports in the body of Christ. Several ACYO chapters from across the Western Diocese participated in the Sports Weekend tournaments, including: St. Mary Costa Mesa, St. Sarkis San Diego, St. Gregory Fowler, St. Paul Fresno, St. Vartan Oakland, St. Gregory Pasadena, St. John San Francisco, St. Peter Van Nuys, Holy Apostles Tujunga, & Holy Resurrection Seattle.

The ACYO-WD Sports Weekend commenced with an exhilarating opening ceremony, where every chapter ran into the St. Paul Fresno Banquet Hall as their ACYO family cheered them on. Candace Karasarkisian & Sarah Koloyian, Co-Chairs of the ACYO-WD Central Council, officially started the ACYO-WD Sports Weekend by thanking clergy, chapters, youth directors, and parents for their presence. Candace & Sarah invited all attendees to join Central Council in singing the American & Armenian national anthems while Arthur Petrosian played them on an electric guitar. Fr. Mesrop Ash, Fr. Gevork Abyan, & Fr. Yessai Bedros were invited to lead everyone in opening prayer and share some opening words of wisdom to start off the weekend.

Following this remarkable opening ceremony, we kept the fun going at Dave & Buster’s, where we had a night filled with games, food, laughter, and fellowship as we celebrated 60 years of Sports Weekend together. Simultaneously, parents enjoyed a W**e & Steak Night prepared by Fr. Avedis Abovian at St. Paul Fresno courtyard with fine w**e, delicious steak, and amazing company.

After the socials, we all went back to St. Paul Fresno for Evening and Night Prayer Services led by Fr. Avedis Abovian, Fr. Gevork Abyan, Dn. Hagop Iskenyan, & Hovik Krdikashyan.

To celebrate the wrap-up of our massive 60th Annual Sports Weekend, we are throwing a summer bash for all of this year's athletes and parents! It’s time to celebrate all your hard work on the court and field with a day of food, fun, and relaxation.

During the weekend of May 1-3, 2026, the ACYO-WD Central Council hosted their Spring Retreat at Hye Camp in Dunlap, CA, following the theme of “Radical Love: Breaking Cycles of Resentment.”
We kicked off Friday with intros and icebreakers to welcome over 40 participants (including lots of first-timers!) and set the tone for a powerful weekend. Youth gathered around the fireplace in fellowship and had a Q&A with Fr. Avedis Abovian and Fr. Mesrop Ash.

Saturday was all about forgiveness—both individually and as a nation—with discussions split up by gender and age group, to dive deeper in a safe space. During break times, youth participated in a soccer and basketball tournament, enjoyed fishing around the lake, and continued conversations outside of the discussions.

Sunday wrapped up with a beautiful Divine Liturgy led by Fr. Avedis Abovian and yet another delicious meal prepared by our generous and compassionate kitchen volunteers.

Such a spiritually fulfilling, fun, and unforgettable weekend with our ACYO family!
