The Bible speaks best when we listen to the whole conversation, not just one sentence.

Reading the Bible well means asking better questions: Who was this written to? Why was it said? What comes before and after? Context matters.

We learned this past Sunday it’s important for us to understand what it meant to them then before we can start to learn what it means for us today.

As you read through the Gospel of John this week be sure to ask those important questions.

Some moments define your story.

Baptism is one of them.

It’s the moment you go public with a deeply personal decision to follow Jesus. A moment that symbolizes leaving your old life behind and stepping into the new life He offers.

If you’ve said yes to Jesus but haven’t taken this step yet, maybe this is your Sunday.

Not because you have it all figured out.
Not because you’ve finally “been good enough.”
But because following Jesus always leads to next steps—and baptism is one of the clearest ones.

No perfect people required.
Just a willingness to say yes.

God isn’t interested in winning arguments. He wants to form hearts.

So many conflicts aren’t about truth versus lies, but humility versus pride. Prayer helps us trade the need to be right for the desire to be Christlike.

If your child came to you and said, “I don’t think you love me because I get scared… because I mess up… because I’m not always good,” it would break your heart.

Because your love was never based on performance.

So why do so many of us assume God’s love works that way?

We live like peace has to be earned.Like acceptance has to be achieved.Like God gets closer when we’re doing well and pulls away when we’re not.

But Jesus paints a completely different picture.

When He talked about the Kingdom of God, He described a life marked by peace, safety, love, and clarity—not someday, but now.

And then He said something unexpected:

“Become like little children.”

Why?

Because children receive.They trust.They don’t perform for belonging.

Maybe healing starts when we stop relating to God like employees trying to impress a boss… and start trusting Him like children loved by a Father.

Mother’s Day is tomorrow, and we’d love to celebrate with you at South Hills. 💐

Whether you’re celebrating your mom, remembering your mom, navigating the joy or complexity of motherhood yourself, or just looking for a place to start your Sunday—we’ve created a morning for you.

All moms will be treated to a waffle bar (because… obviously 🧇), and we’ll also have a special opportunity to get a beautiful professional photo taken by the incredibly talented Griffin Montgomery from our South Hills community. In lieu of a photo fee, we’re simply inviting anyone who’d like to make a donation toward her upcoming Kenya trip. ❤️

FIRST THURSDAY PRAYER GATHERING
Tomorrow 7pm

Prayer isn’t our last resort. It’s our first response.

As a church, we’ve built a rhythm of gathering on the first Thursday of every month to seek God together through prayer. It’s a simple but powerful way for us to slow down, place God first, and make space for His presence in our lives.

Whether prayer feels natural to you or you’re still learning how to pray… whether you’ve followed Jesus for years or you’re just exploring faith… this night is for you.

No pressure. No pretending. Just people coming together to seek God honestly and expectantly.

We’d love for you to be part of it.

It’s easy to focus on what you didn’t get.

The recognition.
The opportunity.
The outcome you worked for.

And when that happens, entitlement starts to whisper:
“You deserve more.”

But humility grounds you in something different—
“Look at what you already have.”

Proverbs 14:12 reminds us that what feels right in the moment doesn’t always lead somewhere good.

Sometimes the strongest move you can make…
is choosing not to act on what feels justified.
