Cherokee Children Mission

Cherokee Children Mission Cherokee Children Mission is a Saturday place where the Varnell/Ketcher family have dedicated years to children's ministries

Pastor Jim and his wife Sister Doris Varnell acquired The Cherokee Children's Mission around 1987. They ran the Mission with the help of their daughter Nanette and her husband Ray Ketcher, their grandson Zach and a very special friend Tootsie since then. The CCM staff share a common sense of purpose to make a difference in the lives of the children of Adair County. Christian values and principles

are taught in the chapel services, and lessons from Bible classes are exeplified by the staff and workers. Though the number one priority at CCM is to administer to the spiritual needs of the children, the personnel are also sensitive to the physical needs of the children and their families. CCM operates solely off of tax-deductible gifts from individuals, churches, and charities. For more information or to send donations you can contact us:

We had 4 kiddos and Spot the Mission Dog today for our last CCM Saturday until September. Nanny taught on building our house upon the rock, the kids did crafts. Mel lead worship and Savannah made pizza and wings.
We’ll be shutting down for a much needed break to finish the playground, and make upgrades, remodels and repairs. We’ll miss those smiling faces but can’t wait for all the good things God has in store.

Nanny taught on having faith like a mustard seed, we had 4 graduates we celebrated today. One kindergarten graduate, two eighth grade graduates, and our Stella Briar graduated from high school. We had party food, with special graduation dessert for snacks. Savannah made petit fours, we had chocolate fondue, and lots of fruit and charcuterie for the kids to try. We were so glad to share this special day with them and can’t wait to see what all God has in store for them.

This is why we do what we do!

We need to broaden our perspective of ministry. We are all called to the ministry!

We had a great day with our Lake Church friends! Reminding us to only dwell on those things from the Lord, all things, true, noble, and lovely. Arts and crafts with Mrs. Lilly, Bible drills with Ms. Dora, object Lesson with Mrs. Mary, Mrs Stephanie, Mr Wayne, Mr Tommy and Mr. Michale all pitched to help too. Nanny, Claudia, and Savannah made lasagna, garlic bread, and salad for lunch. Jonah helped with arts and crafts and clean up, Ray brought the kids and took them home and supervised some outside projects, Mylee made us some delicious cupcakes for snacks. It was a busy day at CCM. Please say a special pray for Mel, she’s broken her ankle and we sure miss her! Be blessed and be a blessing and come see us before we wind things down for summer.

Our friends from Lake Church, Mannford are coming today to spend the day with us. If you’re free come spend the day with us.

There will be no mission tomorrow Saturday, April 18th. Due to the chance of more rain this evening and it already being a muddy mess on the grounds. We also have someone coming to look at our new playground equipment so hopefully we can get that started! Have a great weekend and we’ll see you next week when our friends from Lake Church, Mannford come and spend the day with us.

We got to celebrate our Risen Savior today with our friends from New Life Assembly of God out of Ft Gibson! Pastor Lonnie and Tawanna brought the word and the Good News with the resurrection story and an object lesson! We had sliders for lunch and the kids finally got to hunt Easter eggs and get their baskets. It was a busy day full of fellowship and learning about the ultimate declaration of love!

No mission today 😢! We’re a muddy mess here and the rain keeps coming. We’re sad we won’t get to celebrate our Risen Savior with you this week but he’ll still be king next week. Enjoy time with your families today and reflect on all that Jesus has done for us.

As we are coming to the end of Holy Week, reflect on what today means. Think about the love and sacrifice Jesus endured for you and me. Praise God for his love and promises.

It’s Holy Week…. Let’s take some time to reflect on what Jesus has done for us.

It’s Holy Week…. Let’s take some time to reflect on what Jesus has done for us.

Holy Week Monday.

He walked into the temple and turned over tables. Out of righteous anger and a deep love for what is holy.

“Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.”

Today reminds us to examine our hearts, to clear out what doesn’t belong and to make room for what does.

Lord, search us.
Refine us.
Flip over any unholy tables in our lives.

And make our hearts a place where You, alone, are honored.
