The week after Genesis Baptist Church of Buna experienced what we have been calling “tornado damage” several churches and the Sabine-Neches Baptist Area contacted us to ask if we would accept donations to help with repair costs. We subsequently sent an open letter explaining our immediate need to repair the damaged roof to protect the building’s interior. At that time, we knew we had lost a significant amount of attic insulation, much of our gutters and downspouts, and had damage to our pump house/storage building, along with the possibility of other damage not yet discovered.
Since then, we have repaired the roof’s understructure and replaced the metal roofing. The insulation is scheduled to be replaced Friday, October 2. We are also obtaining bids for the gutters and downspouts. The pump house/storage building sustained significant damage when the roof from the main building fell on it at an angle, causing the structure to lean and damaging its door, siding, and metal roof. We are determining whether repairing or replacing it will be more practical. Thankfully, we have found no damage to the electrical wiring or security system infrastructure at this time.
Most importantly, the generosity of our people, sister churches, and friends throughout Texas has been overwhelming. At this point, we believe the Lord has provided, through your generous contributions, more than enough to cover these unexpected expenses.
Thank you to everyone who allowed the Lord to bless Genesis Baptist Church through your generosity. We are deeply grateful for your kindness, prayers, and support.
