Love. It’s really that simple.
Why did God send HIS only begotten Son? Love. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
What does God want from us? Love. In Matthew 3:37 when asked by a lawyer which commandment was the greatest, “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”
He went further to say the second greatest commandment “is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
How does the world know that we are followers of Jesus Christ? Love.
“By this shall all men know that ye are My disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35
So it got me to thinking… What exactly is love and what should it look like in our lives? And I found the answer. 1 Corinthians 13 “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.”
I was like… WOW! That’s a lot. That’s a long list of things that sometimes we are prone to accept as marks of merit in the world of Christianity but yet without Love it’s absolutely meaningless. Not to even mention all the things that Love truly is and does and doesn’t do. To Love like Jesus would definitely take help from above. We are told in John 15:5 “I am The Vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing.” We are informed here that without Jesus we cannot love like the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians. It’s no wonder that in the list of the fruit of the Spirit the very first fruit is Love. As a branch we must stay connected to the True Vine, for that is the only way we can love one another the way God desires for us to.
I realize this is a long post but as I got to studying about the significance of Love I couldn’t find a stopping place.
So I’ll end with 1 John 4 that wraps it all up. What is Love? God. God is Love.
Have a wonderful day and a beautiful week. Keep Christmas about the greatest Gift of all. God’s Love to us: JESUS.
