Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Albanian-born nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity and served the poorest of the poor in India, for which she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Her feast day marks a legacy of compassion, care and service to the poor.

St. Mother Teresa is the patron saint of World Youth Day, Missionaries of Charity and a co-patron of the Archdiocese of Calcutta, alongside St. Francis Xavier.

The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. This devotion invites us to meditate on the seven sorrows of Mary, reflecting on her suffering and compassion during the life and Passion of Jesus Christ. This month also includes the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8th and the Feast of the Most Holy Name of Mary on September 12th, celebrating her birth and the virtues associated with her name.

Today, September 1st, we celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

This day was established by Pope Francis in 2015, and it marks the beginning of the Season of Creation - a time to reflect on our relationship with the environment and pray for our common home. The Season of Creation 2026 begins today and ends on October 4th, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology.

Just as St. Francis of Assisi cherished all life, we're called to be stewards of nature and be aware of our responsibility to protect our planet. 🙏🌎🌱
