Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Ignatius of Constantinople, a prominent figure in Byzantine Catholic history.

Patriarch of Constantinople, St. Ignatius courageously defended the Church's independence and the dignity of marriage.

Lord, through the intercession of Saint Ignatius, give us the strength never to compromise our faith under the pressures of the world. Amen. 🙏

Yesterday (October 20th) we began the 9-day Solemn Novena to St. Jude, which will conclude on October 28th, the Feast of St. Jude. We will be praying the novena at each Mass here at the St. Jude Center from October 20th through the 28th.

St. Jude Thaddeus was one Jesus' 12 Apostles. He also was Jesus’ cousin. He walked alongside Our Lord during the three years of His public ministry, spread the Gospel far and wide after Christ’s Resurrection, and in the long centuries since, has come to the aid of countless people facing hopeless or impossible difficulties.

Today we celebrate the feast day of St. Paul of the Cross, patron saint of Hungary, the Passionist Order (which he founded), Ovada, Italy (his birthplace) and people suffering from mental and emotional afflictions.

St. Paul of the Cross was born Paolo Francesco Danei in Ovada, Italy and was the founder of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ (the Passionists). Deeply moved by the suffering of Christ, Paul devoted his life to promoting devotion to the Passion of Jesus as the greatest expression of God’s love for humanity.

In 1720, after a powerful mystical experience, he composed the Rule for a new religious community dedicated to preaching Christ crucified and living lives of prayer, poverty, and service. His black tunic, marked with the white emblem of the Passion, became a symbol of his order’s mission of compassion and reparation.

St. Paul was a gifted preacher and spiritual director, inspiring countless souls to conversion and deeper union with God through the contemplation of the Cross.

St. Paul of the Cross, please pray for us. 🙏
