The Advantages of Accountability
Have you found a wise Christian friend to help you stay balanced and pursue righteousness?

At times, people make a mistake by ignoring wise boundaries. But a godly accountability partner can share wisdom to help us avoid such missteps. This type of relationship has valuable benefits:

*Clearer direction. Being honest about faults and failures will lead us to pursue right counsel and encouragement.

*Increased integrity. If we have to give an account to somebody, we’re more likely to live transparently (Proverbs 10:9).

*Better stewardship. Being answerable for the way we use our money, time, and talent makes us steward those resources more carefully.

*Defense against excess. As believers, we’re free in Christ, but an accountability partner helps us to stay balanced and pursue righteousness.

*Healthy self-examination. Another person can often point out what we cannot see in ourselves.

*Protection against unwise relationships. If we have someone who can help us consider which people to spend time with, we’ll be more likely to avoid problematic situations.

Do you check in regularly with someone wise? If not, consider inviting a trustworthy Christian to fill that role. Taking this step reveals a heart that longs to please God.

Verse of the Day for August 5, 2024

Our goal as believers is to mature into the loving presence of Christ Jesus as his unified bodily presence in our divided world. This challenging goal can only be accomplished if we speak the truth — God's Spirit-inspired message (2 Timothy 3:16-17) — with an attitude of love (Ephesians 4:29-32). How can we expect to convey the message of God's love — the sacrificial love that sent Jesus to our world (John 3:16-17) — if we don't demonstrate and share that love ourselves?

Verse of the day for July 25, 2024

When we honestly evaluate where we use our time, how we spend our money, what we think about most frequently, and where we put forth our best efforts, what do we find? Is God our consuming passion? Is he our first love? Do we seek his presence always? God told his people, "Seek me and live..." (Amos 5:4, 6). Jesus' stepbrother, James, challenged us to "Come near to God and he will come near to you" (James 4:8). Yes, let's hear the call of David, the man after God's heart, when he says, "Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always."

Verse of the Day: Ephesians 6:12

We are at war! We face daily battles, and those struggles are not just with sin and temptation. We have a real foe who desires our destruction. But, our enemy has already been defeated, and his angels stand rebuked. So, let's keep our spiritual vigor, knowing that we're not playing church, but we are fighting for the Kingdom. No wonder Jesus taught us to pray the following in the Lord's model prayer: "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" (Matthew 6:13). Yes, we are at war with the evil one — against his lies, and his desire to destroy us. But we can be confidently courageous and joyous because our Lord has overcome the evil one and his malevolent grip on our world (John 16:33; Colossians 2:15).

Verse of the Day
July 8, 2024

Blaise Pascal talked about a vacuum, an emptiness, a craving in each of us that we cannot fill with anything created thing, only with the presence of God. You see, God made us to seek after him and find him (Acts 17:27-28). We are left empty without him — with a God-shaped hole inside of us. Try to imagine the astounding reality of this truth: the God of the Universe made us to need him and to desire his presence in us. Is it any wonder he longs for us to seek him? He waits expectantly to welcome us into his presence just as the father welcomed the repentant and returning prodigal home (Luke 15:11-31). So, Jesus urged us to ask, seek, and knock because God — Father, Son, and Spirit — longs to welcome and bless us with what we need most: their presence!
