Verses from the Easter Sunday scriptures and hymns to ponder this week:

All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. (Acts 10: 43)

Give thanks to the Lord, for the Lord is good;
God’s mercy endures forever. (Psalm 118: 1)

The Lord is my strength and my song,
And has become my salvation. (Psalm 118: 14)

This is the day that the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118: 24)

If you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. (Col. 3: 1)

Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Col 3: 2-3)

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.” (Matt. 28: 5-6)

The women left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy and ran to tell his disciples. (Matt. 28: 8)

Hymns of praise then let us sing, Alleluia!
Unto Christ our heav’nly king, Alleluia!
Who endured the cross and grave, Alleluia!
Sinners to redeem and save, Alleluia! (Jesus Christ Is Risen Today, Alleluia! v.2)

He lives to silence all my fears; he lives to wipe away my tears;
He lives to calm my troubled heart; he lives with blessings to impart. (I Know That My Redeemer Lives, v. 4)

He lives, all glory to his name! He lives, my Savior, still the same;
What joy this blest assurance gives; I know that my Redeemer lives! (I Know That My Redeemer Lives, v. 8)

Reflection questions for the week of March 8, 2026
Readings: Exodus 17: 1-7; Psalm 95; Romans 5: 1-11; John 4: 5-42

In the reading from Exodus, God gives Moses an unexpected answer to the Israelites’ cries for water. Have you ever had an unexpected, perhaps even miraculous, answer to your prayers?

Psalm 95 refers to God as the rock of our salvation. It also refers to the Exodus 17 reading. How is God the rock of your salvation? How do you read this psalm alongside Exodus 17: 1-7?

Romans 5: 3-5 speaks of affliction, endurance, character, and hope. Can you think of difficult time in your life that lead you to develop character and produce hope?

In our gospel lesson, Jesus speaks of “living water.” What does this term mean to you?

You may want to go back to last week’s gospel lesson, Jesus’ encounter with Nicodemus, to compare and contrast that meeting with the meeting in today’s lesson. What differences and similarities do you see?

Reflection questions for March 1, 2026
Readings: Genesis 12: 1-4a; Psalm 121; Romans 4: 1-5, 13-17; John 3: 1-17

God told Abraham to leave everything behind to go to a land God would show him. Have you ever felt that God was telling you to leave something behind? What did you do?

Psalm 121 is a psalm of comfort, describing God’s continuing care and concern for God’s people. When have you felt God watching over and protecting you?

For Paul, the word “faith” does not mean simply believing something about Jesus. It is a way of life. It is being in right relationship with God and with neighbor. Faith is an action. How do you live out your faith in action?

Today’s gospel passage contains one of the most well-known passages of scripture: John 3:16. Less familiar is John 3:17. Read the two verses together. How do you understand verse 16 in light of verse 17?

Our gospel lesson ends with verse 17. However, the section regarding Nicodemus and his encounter with Jesus continues through verse 21. Read verses 18-21. What do they tell you about Jesus? About those who refuse to follow Jesus?

Nicodemus appears two more times in scripture, both in the gospel of John. In John 7:45-52 he speaks in defense of Jesus. In John 19: 38-42 he brings spices to anoint the body of Jesus for burial. We are not told how his conversation with Jesus in our gospel passage today ended. What do you think happened to Nicodemus as he pondered his meeting with Jesus?
