Please tune in THIS Sunday, August 23, 2026 for the CROSSROADS RADIO PROGRAM ...

On this program Stephen McKee, Buffalo Stake, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints talks with Lynn Wright, Amherst Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The conversation traces Lynn Wright’s life from his upbringing in the American Southwest through his education, marriage, missionary service in Japan, international career, Church leadership, family-history work, and eventual return to Western New York. It also highlights the family’s decision to resettle near their children, Lynn’s continuing ties to Japanese colleagues and friends, and the ways family history connects personal, religious, technological, and public interests.

Lynn grew up in Southern California and Southern Utah, including Blanding, a small town about 90 miles south of Moab near the Four Corners, Monument Valley, Canyonlands, Lake Powell, and Arches National Park. His wife, Jackie, was born in New Mexico and grew up mainly in Oklahoma; they were approaching 40 years of marriage and have a 34-year-old daughter and a 31-year-old son.

Lynn and Jackie moved to Clarence in September 2001 after he accepted a global sales director position with a Canadian company. They lived in the area for nine years before moving to Tennessee in 2010 because of a job change. After Lynn’s work became fully remote, the couple returned because both children wanted to live in Western New York and the parents wanted to support them.

Stephen and Lynn talk about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints support for Family History Research. This is particularly important because Church members believe families can be together forever. In that belief framework, members may be baptized and sealed as families through a temple ordinance, and research may help identify ancestors for whom such ordinances can be performed. However, the church’s involvement in Family History Research is not limited to church members. It is available to all who want to discover more about their own histories. In fact Ancestry.Com was started by church members. They also discuss RootsTech, the world’s largest in-person and online annual family history event.

The Rumors are True! - Buffalo Stake Temple Week is Coming in September (7th through 12th)

Dear Buffalo Stake,

President Oaks has consistently taught that temple worship increases our spiritual power, clarifies our priorities, and deepens our covenant relationship with the Savior. He emphasizes that the temple is the Lord’s way of arming His people with revelation, protection, and strength to withstand the spiritual confusion of the world. He has promised that those who attend the temple regularly will experience greater peace, more guidance in daily decisions, and increased capacity to face personal and family challenges.

We will once again host an annual Buffalo Stake Temple day in Palmyra on Sept 12th. In fact, because of busy schedules for many, we want to promote this as a Buffalo Stake Temple week to encourage people to find time during the week leading up to the 12th to go to the temple if Saturday is a challenging day for any schedules. Following this week, the temple will be closed for annual cleaning.

We have a number of thoughts to share to help with different areas of planning and we’re so excited to see the temple overflow once again!

Child Care Help

We will have the Stake Center available, entering from the East side of the building (generally considered the main entrance). We will have help for child care available from 10:30 to 1:30 to help other family members have time at the temple. We will also need help from those who may be able to assist us with offering child care. After 1:30, we will NOT have helpers positioned there, but the Stake Center can remain available until approximately 4:00 for families to utilize with their own needs as a landing zone.

Sign-ups for Scheduling

For slots on Saturday for Baptistry and Child Care help (helpers offering to assist or children in need of being watched), please use the Temple Signup Link which will take you to a google form we’ve created. (Note that for the 3:30 baptistry session if anyone is interested, you would need to book through the temple directly.)

For all other Temple appointments, you will need to use the Temple Scheduling system.

If you are looking to make a group booking for an appointment slot, please limit any bookings to the number of individuals traveling with you. Please DO NOT make larger bookings to block out larger batch of a particular session. We need to allow things to fill in more organically. If you do have a group traveling together for a baptistry session, we recognize the need there to reserve more spots but these will be done name by name in the Temple Signup Link and will be a mix of adult helpers, priesthood brothers, those getting baptized and confirmed, and those who might not be comfortable or able to get in the water. We simply ask that for baptistry, your reservations reflect true confirmed attendees to allow us to keep an accurate view of what is available.

Lunch (Important Update!)

We will have lunch available at the Stake center between approximately 12:00 and 2:00. We will provide Mark’s Pizza, fruit, water, and some other snacks. Pizza will also be available for temple workers who are working at the temple that day during lunch breaks. Please notify Mindy Showalter at [email protected] if you have any special dietary needs. We are happy to do our best to accommodate.

Special Update - For anyone who will miss the pizza lunch block of time, we will be doing something special. We will have our own unique Marks Pizza coupons valid for $5 off per person toward pizza or other Marks items at Marks Pizzeria in Palmyra valid Tuesday through Friday and then Saturday from 2:30 to close. This will allow all to enjoy pizza even if you are going at a different time during the week or if you are going later on Saturday arriving after lunch. Each person in the group will need a coupon which they will write their name on. Multiple coupons may be used for a group as long as each person in the group is named on their own individual coupon. Please notify your Ward or Branch Relief Society Presidency and we will be providing them with coupons in the next couple weeks.

Please seek to support your wards and branches in preparing to enjoy this special time at the temple. Prepare family names and if needed, have brothers and sisters to get your work done. If anyone has felt a pull toward working in the temple, it’s a wonderful time to consider jumping in. We look forward to being with you and know that we are blessed by making this a priority.

Thank you and see you in Palmyra!
