I'm sending this post Neil DeGrasse Tyson and a friend of mine, who lack a proper understanding of Bible, like many of us.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson is my favorite atheist because, though he doesn’t believe in God, he expresses no animosity to people who do, unlike Richard Dawkins, who when speaking at Liberty University, said he believed earth was seeded by aliens in its distant past.
Both men lack the benefit of an understanding of Biblical Hermeneutics, or the tools needed to properly understand the teaching of the Bible. Tyson, the country’s most prominent astrophysicist, heads the Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City. The center is part of the American Museum of Natural History, where he founded the Department of Astrophysics in 1997. Tyson was born and bred in America, in 1958, eleven years after me, so I know he was affected by the State of Tennessee Butler Act, which made it illegal for teachers to teach human evolution in any state-funded school. The Act began a movement which eventually spread thru-out the country, making the teaching of the Bible prohibited in Public Schools at the Pre-College level. When coupled with the fact that people who were qualified to teach the Bible properly were far and few between anyway, this made a proper Christian education almost impossible to obtain outside a Seminary.
Compounding the difficulty in getting a proper understanding of the Bible was followed by a misunderstanding of a Supreme Court ruling in Engel v. Vitale. The court held, “state officials may not compose an official state prayer and require that it be recited in the public schools of the state at the beginning of each school day — even if the prayer is denominationally neutral and pupils who wish to do so may remain silent or be excused from the room.”
On June 26,1962, the day after the Court announced its ruling, the Chicago Tribune came out with a headline which said, “Supreme Court Bans School Prayer.” They were among the many newspapers around the country who got the ruling wrong. To this day many school districts operate under the misunderstanding school prayer violates the separation between church and state. Tyson, when speaking to Bill Moyers, on his Television Show, “Moyers and Company,” said he didn’t think kids should be taught the world was created in seven days according to the Bible. The Bible doesn’t teach the world was created in seven days. A day is the amount of time it takes the earth to complete a rotation on its axis, an orbit around the sun is completed in a year. In the book of Genesis, chapter one, there is no sun until the fourth day. “…And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.” Genesis 1:14-19
The Bible says that God Created the Heaven and Earth in Genesis 1:1, but that statement must be looked at in light of Isaiah 45:7, where it says, “…I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: 6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. 7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.” Isaiah 45:5-7
From that statement it should be clear that God is proclaiming his exclusivity and his ability to create or to form. He creates Ex-Nehilo or out of nothing and he speaks light into being (Enlightenment or Understanding) by the power of his word. (let there be)
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” Genesis 1:1-5
The light mentioned on the first day was the light of the Son, no misprint. The Son of God, he was formed by the power and will of God and so was Adam. The Apostle Paul refers to Christ as the last Adam. “…There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit (life giving).” 1 Corinthians 15:44-45
The numbers three and seven are prominent and significant in understanding the Bible. God is a Trinitarian being, three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and we are tripartite beings, one in three, Body, Soul, and Spirit, thus created in the image of God. With the body we are physically or earthly aware, and with the Soul we are spiritually aware, and with the Spirit we are God aware.
My second book is slated for publishing before the election, I hope it helps you make the right decision, not you Ronnie. I know you don't need any help with that decision.
It is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven...Mathew 13:11
