đź’¬ Someone hurts you.
What do you do?
Hold it in?
Talk about it with someone else?
Or … go to the person?

In Matthew 18, Jesus says when something needs to be addressed, start by talking directly with the person.

On this day, Sept. 4, in 1646, Johann Companius dedicated the first Lutheran church in America in the Swedish colonial settlement Christina, near present-day Wilmington, Delaware, on Tinicum Island. We are reminded that before his departure from his disciples, the risen Jesus commissioned them to “Go . . . and make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28:19)—not to stay put and invite people to join them but to go to people outside their familiar and all-too-comfortable circles, offer them another way to live, and teach them to live it. If we are to carry the name of Jesus, we must consider what to do when institutional maintenance outweighs the risky, proactive abandonment of security in service of the commission we have received from the risen Christ.

From Pastor Jeff: I had the privilege of leading worship at Holloway Memorial Chapel in Ridgeway, ON. Thank you for your warm welcome!

The theme was from Rom 12:9 where St. Paul writes: "Let love be genuine."

Genuine love is not controlled by an on/off switch. Genuine love is not passive.

Genuine love is more than being nice. It asks us to notice our neighbors, listen to their stories, allow ourselves to be changed, and discover life together.

Sometimes the Bible seems irrelevant to life today, until we want to sputter with Clara Peller’s irascible impatience, “Where’s the beef?” Where’s the relevance, the real-life substance?

“When I found your words, I devoured them, and they became to me a joy and my heart’s delight” (Jer. 15:16a). How do you find God’s words? How do you approach the Bible? Some read it like a legal d…

The best part of who we are is the part that’s connected to others in a community of relationships. That’s how abundant life grows, and that’s why we are here: to nourish relationships here, near, and far so everyone may live abundantly.

What is the best part of you—the part that feels most like who you really are? What is the truest, strongest, most alive part of you? When life falls apart, what is the part of you that keeps going…
