Living Into an Image

Living Into an Image We are created in God's image. But living into that image is something we grow into throughout our lives. John Nevins Andrews, for whom Seventh Day Adventists would name Andrews University, died on this day, Oct. 16, in 1883. Among his influential contributions was a carefully argued defense of Sabbatarianism—worship on the seventh-day, or Sabbath (Saturday), as opposed to Sunday worship. Whatever the day of your custom, do you set aside a day in which to stop, let go of your preoccupations and agenda, and rest in your relationship with God? There’s a reason why a day of rest was the first holy thing mentioned in our scriptures (Gen. 2:3)—not a thing, a place, or an activity, but a day of rest, a day of “doing not doing” as the Buddhists would say. Today (Oct 16) is World Food Day.

See these resources from ELCA World Hunger and consider ways you can respond today or over the weekend. See the 3rd image for ideas of what kinds of things you can do, but donating time, money, and food are all helpful.

Please also consider that not everyone can eat everything.
So, what kind of foods can you donate for those who are diabetic, react to gluten, those who don't eat meat, people whose diet is affected by their religion, etc.

See this blog for links to resources from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as we work this through with faith, scripture, and our own experience.

Good enough at work?

Good enough as a friend, spouse, or parent?

Good enough … as a Christian?

So much of life seems to be about measuring up. But what happens when we bring that same measuring stick into our relationship with God?

Jesus offers something different.

❤️ God's invitation isn't a reward for being good enough. It's a gift of generosity and grace.

In God's eyes, you are already MORE than good enough.

How often do we wonder whether we’re good enough? Good enough at work. Good enough in our relationships. Good enough … even for God. In one of Jesus’ more challenging parables, a king t…
