O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgement in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Gracious God, we thank you for adopting us into your family through the miracle of your grace, and for calling us to be brothers and sisters to each other. Today, loving God, we pray for our Mothers, and for those special women who have been like mothers to us:
who cared for us when we were helpless
Who comforted us when we were hurt
Whose love and care we often took for granted.
We praise you, O God, for your gift of motherly love, both gentle and fierce, both strong and humble, both kind and true. Where we have been so blessed, we give our grateful praise, for the loving hands that have worked so hard in raising us, cared enough to correct us, and blessed us. We remember the mothers who have gone before us. For their live and sacrifice, struggle and joy, we thank you.
Lord, we remember the mothers of Scripture who are a part of our story as we are a part of your story. For their courage, faith, love and fierceness, we thank you. And we remember those who have not given birth to us, but are mothers to us. For their gift of themselves that they have given, we thank you.
Bless every mother around the world this day, dear Lord. May their love be deep and tender, and by their teaching and example may they lead their children, and all the children around them, to know and do what is good, and to live not for themselves alone, but for you and for others.
And grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
