The Kingdom of God, as Jesus taught, is not about individuals striving to reach heaven in isolation. To seek heaven only for oneself would be an act of inward love, turned away from the very essence of divine love. Jesus calls us instead to love our neighbour—to live in such a way that our faith becomes radiant and attractive, drawing others into that same love. In this shared journey, our love for others and their love for us meet and are made complete in God.
When Jesus told Nicodemus that we must be born of water and of the Spirit (John 3:5–7), he revealed a twofold path: first, to become truly human, and then, through the Spirit, we awaken to divine life. Both stages unfold through our life on earth. This earthly journey of love and transformation—what the early Church called "theosis"—The ongoing process of becoming like God. It is within this transformation that heaven and earth come into harmony, Heaven, then, is not merely our destination. It is our vocation.
