Friends of Greenwood Cemetery

Friends of Greenwood Cemetery Greenwood Cemetery was established in1895 to serve a diverse group of citizens residing in the newly incorporated city of Buena Vista.

It is our mission to restore this cemetery and bring honor to those interred in its boundaries. If you are interested in helping the Friends of the Greenwood Cemetery restore this historic burial site and give honor to our ancestors who did so much for the city of Buena Vista, please contact one of the members of Friends for more information. We are in need of both volunteers to help out at the si

We are approaching a key milestone in this project! Phase I of the cemetery restoration will be completed in March/April ! This includes cleaning, fencing, and signs honoring all who are buried at this location. An entryway and paved area with a trail through the area will also be available. We are asking for your support. We need $1500 more to complete the project. Please help! Donations can be given to Jake Shewey, Preston Evans, Mike Guinn, or Val MacInnis. We also have an account at Truist in Lexington called Friends of Greenwood Cemetery. Anything you could give would be appreciated!

We would like to thank all the students and staff from Southern Virginia University for their help in cleaning out the cemetery this morning ! Everyone had a good time even though we were all soaked from the heavy rain! Special thanks to Adam Whipple for organizing the group!
