In the Gospel reading, the religious leaders try to entrap Jesus to take sides either with or against the Romans by asking Him whether it is proper to pay the census tax to Caesar.

If Jesus says that the people should pay the tax, then the religious leaders would attack Him for siding with the Roman oppressors by giving the Romans the monetary means to increase their persecution of the Jewish people.....and if Jesus says that the people should Not pay the tax, then the religious elders would attack Him for giving the Romans further reason to oppress the Jews because of their obstinance against the Romans.

Jesus then asks to see the coin and asks whose image and inscription are on the coin.....and since the image is Caesar's, Jesus says to give it to Caesar, as the coin clearly belongs to him....but Jesus Also says to Give to God what belongs to God.

Ultimately, Jesus is reminding them and us that We are made in God's image, He calls Us by Name, and we should give to God what belongs to Him....a life which is devoted to Glorify our God! - Amen

Today we remember Saint Justin, a philosopher who spent his life searching for truth. When he found Christ, he did not keep the truth to himself. He defended the faith with courage, even when it caused him his life.
Justin reminds us that faith is not just something we inherit; it is something we embrace and live. The tenants in the Gospel rejected the Son; Justin welcomed Him completely .
Let us ask ourselves: when Christ comes into my life, does He find resistance or fruit? May we have the courage of Saint Justin to recognize the truth, follow it, and bear good fruit for God. Amen

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
The Father is my hope. The Son is my refuge. The Holy Spirit is my protector. Glory to the holy and undivided Trinity, now and for ever. Let us praise the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; let us bless and exault God above all for ever! Almighty and everlasting God, to whom we owe the grace of professing the true faith, grant that while acknowledging the glory of the eternal Trinity and adoring its unity, we may through your majestic power be confirmed in this faith and defended against all adversities; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Reflection by Deacon Alberto

In today’s Gospel, the disciples are walking with Jesus toward Jerusalem,
but they still do not fully understand His mission. James and John ask for
places of honor and greatness.
Like them, we too often think success means power, recognition, or
being first. The world teaches us to climb higher, gain more, and be
noticed.
But Jesus turns that way of thinking upside down. He tells His disciples,
“Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant.” Then He
gives the greatest example of all: “The Son of Man did not come to be
served but to serve.”
Jesus shows us that true greatness is not about status but about love. Real
greatness is found in serving others, helping those in need, listening with
patience, forgiving generously, and putting others before ourselves.
In today’s world, where many seek attention and personal success, Jesus
invites us to live with humility and compassion.
Jesus also says that He came to give His life for many. On the cross, He
showed the depth of God’s love for humanity. He gave everything so that
we might have life and hope.
Today, let us ask ourselves: Do I seek to serve or to be served? Do I use
my gifts to lift others up? May Jesus teach us to follow His example of
humble service, so that through our words and actions, others may
experience God’s love.

In the Gospel reading, the blindman Bartimaeus is scolded by the crowd for crying out to Jesus....but he persists. When Jesus acknowledges him, the crowd turns from their scorn of the man, to one of assistance in his access to Jesus.

Jesus asks what the man desires, hears that he wants to see, and grants his wish.

In Peter's Letter, he refers to Jesus being the stone which was rejected by the builders, only to be deemed as "precious" in the "eyes" of God.

The two stories are linked in the following way.....The "builders" (the religious elders) were supposed to have been knowledgeable in the ways of masonry (the ways of Faith) and yet they discarded a precious stone (Jesus, who became the cornerstone).

Similarly, the crowd surrounding the blindman hoped to gain access to Jesus....but instead, Jesus engages the "afflicted" blindman, who the crowd had initially dismissed but who recognized, despite his blindness, that Jesus was the "Son of David".

Ultimately, the truly "afflicted" ones are the members of the crowd who needed to have the "Foresight" and Understanding of the blindman, whose physical affliction was healed by Jesus because of his Faith......Jesus, whose own Faith and Obedience to God the Father, made Him the Cornerstone of our Faith!!!

The lesson for us:.....Man does not see as God sees.....so remain Faithful to God despite the blindness of a world filled with people who refuse to See!! - Amen
