What happens when the last note fades and the lights come back up? That is the question Pastor Josh brought to close our “Worship More Than a Song” series this Sunday, and the answer from Romans 12:1-2 is both simple and life-changing.

Paul writes that in light of everything God has done, the only reasonable response is to present your whole life as a living sacrifice. Not just your Sunday morning. All of it. Your time, your money, your plans, your future.

The challenge is that living sacrifices have a tendency to crawl off the altar. Surrender is not a one-time decision. It is a daily posture. And as our minds are renewed by God’s truth, the way we live begins to change too.

Worship was never just a song. It is a life that belongs completely to him, until the day described in Revelation 7 when every tribe and tongue falls before the Lamb forever.

Why do we gather?

It’s a legitimate question… when I can worship God in my home, driving to work, at my work desk or wherever, why do I need to get up and go to worship at church?

The Bible is pretty clear that God created us to worship together. Both old and new testament show us that God’s people longed for and desired to worship together.

• To seek His presence.
• To find strength for the journey.
• Because nothing compares to Him.

Why do we gather?

It is a question worth asking honestly. If worship is bigger than a song, if you can seek God in your car or your living room, what makes Sunday different?

Psalm 84 gives us a beautiful answer. The sons of Korah did not long for a building. They longed for God. “My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord” is not the language of obligation. It is the language of desire.

We gather to seek his presence. We gather to find strength for the journey, even when the road runs straight through dry and difficult places. And we gather because, as the psalmist declares, one day in his courts is better than a thousand anywhere else.

What has your heart been longing for more than God? Bring that question with you this week.

Friday gave us a little glimpse of what VYC can become. 🤍

We bowled, crushed some pizza, and discovered that nothing brings out the competitive side of our older students quite like the boxing machine at EVO. 😂

Then we gathered students and parents together to talk about VYC and why we’re building it: to raise up a generation of students who know Jesus, love Him, and learn what it looks like to follow Him

The meeting ended, but nobody really left. Students ran back to their games while parents stayed behind to chat. Before long, we caught parents playing too, shooting basketball, racing their kids and taking their own turn at that boxing machine.

We’re grateful God has entrusted us with the opportunity to walk alongside these students and their families.

Why do Christians sing?

It is not simply tradition, and it is not just because we enjoy music. We sing because God is worthy.

Psalm 95 reminds us that the God who holds the depths of the earth in his hands and formed the seas from nothing is the same God who knows your name, walks with you through your hardest seasons, and calls you his own. The mountains did not create themselves. The sunrise does not preach to an empty room. Creation was never meant to steal our worship — it was meant to stir it.

This Sunday we kicked off our new series, Worship More Than a Song. If you have ever checked out during the music or wondered why singing even matters, this series is for you. Come discover what it looks like to see God rightly and respond with everything you have.
