At the end of Mark 1, before Jesus heals a l***r and then a paralytic (palsied) man in chapter 2, he spends time in a desolate place, early in the morning, communing with the Father in prayer. In this photo, G. Campbell Morgan comments on the nature of prayer in relationship to kingdom power. Though we may pattern our prayer after Christ, until it becomes a practice of self-emptying we may experience a limit of the power He wants to give us to obey his commands. These commands are sufficiently expressed as loving God and loving others.

I would contend that prayer is often taught to be a time of self-filling, that the Father is more of a celestial vending machine who has the power to prosper us. This is unbiblical and deceptive. Though He delights to hear us ask for what we need, He is most pleased with the prayers full of listening, responding, and agreement that He might give us power to obey (and thereby might He give us ALL things?).

All are welcome to join us on Sundays at 5 for our study through Mark. We will break the 24th and 31st of December.
