We warmly welcome you to join us for this very special program starting in just over a week with Chung Tulku Rinpoche! This series runs on Saturdays from October 17th through January 23rd, from 7–9am ET (5–7pm Bhutan time) offered as a live online teaching. For those unable to join the practice live recordings are available on the course platform for a full year allowing participants the space to receive these teachings on your own time. Proceeds from the event go directly to support Chung Rinpoche’s nunnery, Tshogyel Lungtok Tengayling, in the Paro valley.
The Yönten Dzöd, or Treasury of Precious Qualities, is a treatise by Jigme Lingpa written in the winter of 1779-80, offering a comprehensive explanation of the Buddhist path according to the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. Across its thirteen chapters, it moves from the hinayana teachings all the way through to Dzogchen, making it a single text that covers the entire Buddhist curriculum, an invaluable tool for modern practitioners wishing to support and stabilize their path, especially in cultivating hearing and contemplative wisdom.
This first volume lays out the sutra teachings in gradual stages, according to the traditional three levels, or scopes, of spiritual endeavor. It begins with essential teachings on impermanence, karma, and ethics. From the Hinayana standpoint, it covers the four noble truths and the twelve links of dependent origination. Finally, from the Mahayana perspective, it expounds fully on bodhichitta and the path of the six paramitas, with an unusually detailed exposition of Buddhist vows. The nine chapters covered in Part One are:
The Difficulty of Gaining the Freedoms and Advantages
Death and Impermanence
Karma: Cause and Effect
The Sufferings of Samsara
The Four Wheels, the initial entry point for supreme beings
Taking Refuge, the entrance to the Buddhist Path
The Entrance to the Actual Mahayana (cultivating the four immeasurables)
Arousing Bodhichitta
The Bodhisattva Trainings
These topics provide the very foundation that allows practitioners on whatever stage of the path to hold their experience skillfully and turn it toward real benefit for others.
Chung Rinpoche received the transmission and instruction on the Yönten Dzöd directly from Khenchen Pema Sherab Rinpoche, one of the three great khenpos of Namdrolling Monastery. But Rinpoche's own lineage is what makes this opportunity so rare: he is one of only two living holders of the Yangti Nakpo, one of the most profound and direct cycles of dark retreat practice within the Vajrayana, carrying an unbroken transmission rooted in the Dzogchen tradition of Bhutan. Recognized as the mind reincarnation of Trulshik Dongak Lingpa, an important terton connected to the revitalization of the Yangti Nakpo lineage, Rinpoche has spent his life preserving and transmitting this tradition in its full integrity.
To receive these teachings from Chung Rinpoche is to receive them from a profound source that embodies the fullness of this living transmission. This is a rare chance to learn directly from a lineage holder whose own path maintains and mirrors the very qualities the text describes.
We hope you join us for this profound program. There’s still time to enroll before we begin. 🔗 Learn more at courses.yangtiyoga.com
