These verses were part of the Sunday School lesson this past Sunday. I have spent a good deal of time thinking about “become as little children” since then.

As adults we pride ourselves on independence and self sufficiency. We are often set in our ways and do things the way we see fit. We often are so blinded by our own self righteousness, we find it impossible to learn from others. We are always right and they are wrong.

“Becoming as little children” is the antithesis of what we value as adults. Little children depend completely on a parent’s care for feeding, clothing, bathing, and interaction. Little children are bound to the parent and goes where the parent goes or directs. Little children mimic the actions and interest of the parent.

So for us to become as “little children” we need to depend completely on Christ; trust that he will care for us completely, trust he will provide our needs. To become as “little children” we need to follow God’s path for our life, and go where he sends us.

Finally, to become as “little children” we need to mimic Christ. We are not our own, we are bought with a price. We can’t continue to do what is right in our own eyes (you can learn that lesson from the book of Judges), but work toward mimicking the life Jesus lived.

Strength is often defined as a man who needs no help. Our culture celebrates the stoic man who faces his battles singlehandedly. Only the weak believe receiving help is a sign of weakness.

But just as we take joy in offering strength to others, there are those eager to offer their strength to us. We must be courageous enough to seek help and persistent enough to find it. When we do, our strength multiplies through those we join with.

As you go through your day, look for opportunities to strengthen and to be strengthened.

What a great service Saturday at Victory Baptist in Bryson City! There was wonderful Spirit-led singing and preaching. Pastor Schuler preached a great message on revival and identity. Your identity is NOT who you used to be. Your identity is NOT who you are. Your identity IS in Jesus. 1 Corinthians 6:11
