This Sunday’s sermon, “That They May Be One,” explores John 17:1–11 and Acts 1:6–14 through a simple but deeply important truth: Jesus did not come to replace God, but to reveal the heart of the one Creator more clearly to humanity.

In John’s Gospel, Jesus constantly points beyond himself toward “the only true God.” His life reveals what divine love, justice, mercy, and compassion look like in human form. Then in Acts, Christ passes that same spiritual mantle to the disciples, showing that the Spirit of God is not confined to one person, nation, denomination, or institution. The same divine breath that moved through Christ now moves through humanity itself.

This sermon wrestles with the dangers of religious division, nationalism, and reducing God to narrow ideological boxes. It argues that when we make faith about domination rather than unity, we betray the very prayer Jesus prayed: “that they may be one.”

At a time when the world feels increasingly fractured, this message invites us to remember that all people are far more connected than we often admit, and that every act of mercy, justice, truth, and love bears witness to the living God.

Join us this Sunday as we reflect on what it means to embody unity in a divided world.

In a 16 minute sermon, Pastor Qadry reflects on how we deny the Resurrection not by rejecting Easter outright, but by refusing to recognize Christ beyond the limits of our own certainty. From the road to Emmaus to Peter’s witness in Acts, this message confronts Christian nationalism, religious arrogance, and spiritual gatekeeping with a deeper question: what happens when the risen Christ appears where we did not expect him?

Resurrection is not the property of the self-righteous. It is God’s witness to the whole world.

Christ is still walking, still breaking bread, and still opening eyes. The question is whether we are humble enough to recognize him.

Lent calls us to slow down and remember that our faith was formed in real history. Genesis 1 was shaped in the ancient Near East, likely during or after Israel’s exile in Babylon. Surrounded by powerful empires with their own creation stories, Israel proclaimed something bold: there is one sovereign God, creation is ordered, and every human being bears the image of God. In a world where kings claimed divine status, Genesis quietly democratized dignity. It declared that worth does not belong only to rulers, but to all people.

Genesis 2–3 deepens the tension. The story of the Tree of Knowledge wrestles with questions of authority and moral definition: Who decides what is good and evil? In the ancient world, knowledge was tied to power. The narrative reflects the human struggle between trust in divine order and the desire to grasp control. It is a story about responsibility in a world where power shapes reality.

By the first century, Judea lived under Roman occupation. Crucifixion was not merely punishment; it was political theater — a warning to anyone who threatened imperial order. When Jesus walked toward Calvary, he entered the same long struggle between God’s vision of ordered justice and empire’s demand for control.

This Lent, we remember that the God who brought order out of chaos stands with human dignity. Even when empire asserts its power, the Creator’s purpose moves toward restoration — through the cross, and beyond it.
