本日の説教では、ヨハネ17章後半（20–26節）を中心に、イエスが最後の晩餐の後に捧げられた祈りの核心について語られました。この箇所では、イエスが弟子たちだけでなく、将来信じるすべての人々のために祈られており、その中心にあるのが「信者の一致」と「神の栄光」です。
まず、ヨハネ17章全体の流れが整理されました。1–5節ではイエスが父に向かって祈り、十字架を通して神の栄光が現されることを願われています。6–19節では弟子たちのために祈り、彼らが一つとなること、悪から守られること、そして聖別されることが求められています。そして20–26節では、後に信じる私たちのために祈られており、「すべての信者が一つとなること」と「神の栄光を見ること」が語られています。
特に強調されたのは、永遠の命の意味です。それは「唯一の真の神である父と、遣わされたイエス・キリストを知ること」であり、単なる知識ではなく、生きた関係として神を知ることです。そして、その関係を可能にするのが助け主である聖霊の働きであると語られました。
また、信者の一致についても深く語られました。一致は人間の努力によるものではなく、父と子の完全な一致に由来するものです。そして、その一致を実現する具体的な方法として与えられているのが、「互いに愛し合いなさい」という新しい戒めです。信者同士が愛し合うとき、その姿は世に対する証しとなり、人々はそこにキリストを見出します。初代教会においても、その愛と一致が周囲の人々の心を動かし、多くの人が信仰へと導かれていきました。
さらに、神の栄光とは何かについても語られました。それはイエスの十字架、復活、昇天を通して現された神の愛と力であり、その結果として多くの人々が救われることが神の栄光の現れです。そして信じる者に与えられている希望は、やがてその神の栄光を直接見ることであり、黙示録21章に描かれるような、神と共にある永遠の世界に生きることです。
説教の最後には、受難週に向けた実践的な勧めが語られました。私たちの内には一致を妨げる罪の性質があることを認めつつ、この一週間を自らの罪を見つめ、へりくだって過ごす期間とすることが勧められました。そして、教会や身近な関係の中で、具体的に「互いに愛し合う」行動を一つでも実践するよう促されました。
イエスが十字架を前にして最後に残された願いは、信じる者が一つとなることでした。その一致は単なる理想ではなく、神の栄光を現し、福音を伝える力そのものです。受難週を迎えるにあたり、このメッセージを心に留め、日々の歩みの中で具体的に応答していきたいと思います。
Today’s sermon focused on the second half of John 17 (verses 20–26), where Jesus offers His prayer after the Last Supper. In this passage, Jesus not only prays for His disciples but also for all future believers. The core themes of His prayer are the unity of believers and the revelation of God’s glory.
The sermon first outlined the structure of John 17. In verses 1–5, Jesus prays to the Father, asking that God’s glory be revealed through His upcoming suffering on the cross. In verses 6–19, He prays for His disciples, that they may be one, protected from evil, and sanctified. Finally, in verses 20–26, He prays for all who will believe in Him, emphasizing two main points: that all believers may be united, and that they may behold God’s glory.
A key point emphasized was the meaning of eternal life. It is defined as “knowing the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.” This knowledge is not merely intellectual, but relational—an ongoing, living relationship with God. The sermon explained that this relationship is made possible through the work of the Holy Spirit, the Helper.
The unity of believers was another central theme. This unity is not something created by human effort, but is rooted in the perfect unity between the Father and the Son. The practical way to live out this unity is through the “new commandment”: to love one another. When believers truly love one another, their unity becomes a powerful testimony to the world. The early church demonstrated this clearly—their love and unity drew others in, and many came to faith as a result.
The sermon also addressed the meaning of God’s glory. God’s glory is revealed through Jesus’ death on the cross, His resurrection, and His ascension. Through these events, God’s love and power are made known, leading many to receive eternal life. Believers are given the hope that they will one day see this glory fully, as described in Revelation 21, and live eternally with God.
In closing, the sermon offered practical encouragement as we enter Holy Week (beginning March 30, 2026). We were reminded that we all have a sinful nature that can hinder unity. Therefore, this week should be a time to reflect on our sins, humble ourselves, and intentionally practice love toward others—whether through reconciliation, kindness, or support.
Jesus’ final desire before going to the cross was that believers would be one. This unity is not merely an ideal—it is the very means by which God’s glory is revealed and the gospel is made visible to the world. As we enter Holy Week, we are encouraged to hold this message in our hearts and live it out in our daily lives.
