The New Church

The New Church The New Church helps people draw closer to the Lord God Jesus Christ, sharing His power and His peace. It is a religion to be lived, not just believed.

The New Church is a Christian denomination that addresses questions about God, love, and life after death with answers that make sense. New Church beliefs are of course founded in the Word of God in the Old and New Testaments, and provide new insight into its meaning. Some of our core beliefs:
• There is one loving, personal God, and He is the Lord Jesus Christ.
• The life of religion is to

obey the Ten Commandments, and to act honestly and faithfully in our daily occupations.
• The Word of God (the Bible) has a deeper meaning, teaching about a person’s spiritual development.
• Each of us continues life as a complete person immediately after death of the body.
• God does not judge us, but we judge ourselves by what we love and how we live.
• People of every faith are saved if they live sincerely according to their religion. A fuller discussion of New Church beliefs can be seen at https://newchurch.org/get-answers/spiritual-concepts/

Where do we find the Lord? In stillness, in mindfully noticing the best in others, and in listening for the quiet Voice. Thanks Brendan and Josiah for sharing your thoughts!

"I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
I have not departed from Your judgments,
For You Yourself have taught me.
How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!"
Psalm 119:101-103

The lies you tell can build your reality. Don't come to the table with a predetermined idea of who someone is. Give yourself and others the opportunity to be whole, nuanced, changing people.

"...No one becomes an angel or comes into heaven except one who brings an angelic character with him from the world. Present in an angelic character, moreover, is a knowledge of the way from walking in it, and a walking in the way through a knowledge of it.

The spiritual world also has in it actual paths which lead to every society of heaven and to every society of hell; and everyone sees his own path as though of himself. He sees it because there are paths there for every love, and love reveals the path and leads a person to his fellows. No one sees any other paths than those of his own love.

It is apparent from this that angels are simply embodiments of heavenly loves, for otherwise they would not have seen the paths leading to heaven. But this can be better seen from a description of heaven." Divine Providence 60

Our view of God is a huge part of how we relate to Him. Parent, friend, master, teacher? Loving, commanding, judging, leading? Let us know how you see God.

Your intentions matter, and so does your effort.

"The reason we have the freedom to think and do things that are harmful and false (when the law does not prevent us) is to make it possible for us to change our lives for the better. Goodness and truth have to be worked into our love and motivation in order to become a part of our life. This cannot happen unless we are free to have harmful and false thoughts as well as good and true ones. The Lord gives this freedom to everyone. When we have good and true thoughts, the Lord works them into our love and motivation — as long as we do not love things that are harmful and false — so that our life is changed for the better.

Anything planted in our mind in freedom stays with us, but anything planted in our mind under compulsion does not last. Things we do under compulsion do not come from our own motivation, but from the motivation of whoever is forcing us to do them. This is why worship offered in freedom pleases the Lord, but not worship offered under compulsion. Worship offered in freedom comes from love, but worship offered under compulsion does not." Thanks to Ingrid and Deidre for sharing these quotes of comfort and peaceful rest. A reminder that the Lord's words are a remedy to the natural worries of life!

Correction: the video text has an incorrect spelling of Deidre's name. Apologies!

"I spoke with some spirits who thought heaven and heavenly joy consisted in being greatest. But I told them that the greatest in heaven is the one who is least. Whoever wants to be least has the greatest happiness. Since the person with the greatest happiness is the person who is least, it follows that such a person is the greatest. What is being greatest if not being happiest? Happiness is what the powerful seek in power and what the rich seek in riches.

I added that heaven does not consist in the desire to be least for the purpose of being greatest, because then the hope and longing is to be greatest. Heaven is wishing better for others than for ourselves with all our heart and serving others for the sake of their own happiness, not for any selfish goal but for love." Secrets of Heaven 452
