613 commandments.

248 of them saying *you shall*. 365 saying *you shall not*. That's what the law handed to the people of Israel — every part of life, accounted for.

Asked which one was the greatest, Jesus picked two.

Love God with everything you have. Love your neighbor as yourself. "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

In Sunday's sermon, Fr. Daryl Hay walked through the words we say every week without stopping to turn them over — law, love, neighbor, Messiah, Lord — the ones that, as T.S. Eliot put it, won't quite stay still under the weight we put on them.

He also took on the hardest passage in the reading, the riddle about how David can call his own son "Lord," and did it with a candor we appreciated: "I don't know if I explained it very well at the eight o'clock service. I'm going to do my best here." (The Pharisees stopped asking Jesus questions after that one. As Fr. Daryl said, they're as perplexed as we are.)

And then the turn that stayed with us. Who counts as a neighbor? The Good Samaritan answers it both ways: your neighbor is the one in need — and the one who shows them mercy.

Whatever else we are, he said, we're a community that comes down to love.

Friends of Saint Andrew’s, we’re gearing up for one of our favorite parish traditions—and we need your help to make it special.
Our annual Celebrate With Relish Luncheon & Sale on Saturday, December 5 at 11:00 AM is a joyful gathering filled with homemade goodness, handcrafted treasures, and the warmth of our community.
Proceeds support the ministries of Saint Andrew’s, and the day itself is a chance to come together, share a meal, and celebrate the gifts of so many talented hands.
We’re seeking donations of:

Relishes & jams
Breads & loaves
Quilts
Pottery
Crafts and other homemade or handcrafted items
Whether you love to bake, sew, preserve, throw pots, or create something uniquely yours, your contribution helps make this beloved event a success. Every jar, loaf, quilt, and craft becomes part of the celebration—and a way to bless others.

Please plan to drop off your donations at the Parish Hall ahead of the event (details coming soon). Then join us on Saturday, December 5 at 11:00 AM for the luncheon and sale. Bring friends, browse the tables, and enjoy the fellowship.

You are invited to a men’s spirituality discussion and study group tonight from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Middleway Urban Monastery. This week's topic is "Testing Family Ties" based on the story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22.

Six seminal Bible stories put all kinds of men — kings, warriors, leaders, followers, young and old — into situations that both illuminate and shape their faith. Their responses may help light the way for modern men, and for our relationship to God and to one another.
