Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico

Yucatán, Mexico, is home to approximately 2.4 million people and currently has no Free Will Baptist church. Most residents identify as Roman Catholic, while only about 10% are Evangelical Protestants. The region's population is primarily Mayan and Mestizo, and some communities still practice elements of the ancient Mayan religion.

In 2018, Pastor Samuel Ramos and his wife, Ana Belkis, moved to Yucatán from our Free Will Baptist work in Cuba. Burdened to reach the people of this region with the Gospel, they began holding worship services in their home in the city of Mérida. Their vision is to see this growing group of believers become the first Free Will Baptist church in the state and serve as a launching point for ministry throughout the Yucatán Peninsula.

God is blessing the work, and the congregation continues to grow. As the ministry expands, they have two immediate needs:

• A covered outdoor worship area to provide protection from the intense sun and seasonal rains.

• A land fund to begin saving toward the purchase of property and the construction of a permanent church building.

Please Pray For:

• Continued growth and spiritual maturity of the congregation

June 21, 2026 Announcements:

Every Tuesday morning is the men's prayer time at 9:00.

June 24th - Adult Mid Week Bible Study. We will begin the introduction to our new study "Be Satisfied" by Warren Wiersbe as he guides us through Ecclesiastes as we are looking for the answer to the meaning of life.

June 25th - Celebration of Life for Jennifer Snook at 5:00.

June 28th - Meal of the month is Pasta and Salad! Bring your favorite pasta dish, salad and dessert. If you bring enough for your family plus a little more we should have plenty.

June 28th - July 1st - Junior Camp at Camp Sonshine for ages 7-11.

You Want to Build A Bathroom? A Story from Puka Urku

Adam and Carol Duncan are native rural Missourians.
They have two children: Caleb and Moriah.
In 2018, they joined The Hanna Project team in Ecuador. In 2019, Carol led the medical team, and they felt God stir their hearts toward permanent ministry.
In December of 2019, they were approved by the IM board to go to Ecuador.

The Mazda B-10’s motor strains as it climbs the many hills leading to Puka Urku. Although they have blacktopped the road five years ago, it’s still a steep 20-minute climb from our house. It’s a village that isn’t far, but it has been forgotten. A nearly abandoned Catholic church, where someone gives mass once a quarter, sits on the left as you pass by to get to the community soccer field and communal hut. The two-room schoolhouse sits to the right, closer to the Napo River. It doesn’t take long to see the changing landscape and development once you are a mile outside of Misahualli, several miles further, and clusters of chozas and wooden homes on stilts, you realize that public water services have thinned or stopped altogether. I (Carol) have been going to Puka Urku with my friend Maria for three years now. She is a health liaison with public health. Her uncle and in-laws live in Puka Urku (Kichwa for red mountain), so it is close to her heart. She desires for her family to lead a better life, ultimately to know Jesus.
How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how will they preach unless they are sent? Romans 10:14 (ESV)
This verse and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) are often proclaimed as key missions passages. Paul walks us through the process of sharing the good news. It must be deliberate, but how does one start? We began home visits and portable clinics over 2 years ago in Puka Urku. The people always shared from what they had in exchange for the medical care received. In all of this, I saw recurring illnesses that seemed like basic hygiene and sanitation. Kids were using the bushes for the bathroom during the school day, and many homes didn’t have running water. Enter, collaborate to build a bathroom to have the opportunity to share the Gospel. One month ago, a CHE bathroom committee was formed with 4 work groups. Each group would work one day a week, so no one would lose time on their farms or earning wages. While there may still be laughing when I attempt to speak Kichwa, the laughing stops when we share a devotional or prayer; instead, there is leaning in, curiosity, and softened hearts.
Pray for the village of Puka Urku, more than unity in purpose and work, we want our neighbors to deeply know the love of Christ and the power of salvation.

June 17th - Adult Mid Week Bible Study. We'll continue reading and discussing Dr. Charles Swindoll's book "Jesus, The Greatest Life of All". We meet at 6:30 in person and Face Book live. Join us!

June 21st - Children's Church for ages 4-6 with Lilly and 7-11 with Will. Children will be dismissed after the worship music.

June 28th - Meal of the month is Pasta and Salad!

Our dear Sister Jennifer was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 7th. While we will miss her greatly on this earth, we are comforted in knowing that she is restored to perfect health and is in the presence of our Savior whom she loved dearly. We invite you to join us for a celebration of life on Thursday, June 25th at 5:00 pm.

Daniel and Shelby Culwell - Japan

Daniel and Shelby Culwell serve on a church-planting team in Tokyo, Japan. In 2019, this team launched a bilingual church called Hope Alive. They are also actively working with all of the local area FWB churches. They do things like construction, web design, graphics, helping with events, finances, and filling in where needed. Daniel and Shelby have the privilege of introducing Japanese people to Jesus for the first time! They have three children: Easton, Barrett, and Lily. They are involved in the IMpact Kids & Family Ministry Japanese Resources Project. As a part of the Hope Alive Network, they will be launching a new type of team. This team isn’t a church plant but has a vision of supporting all churches in Japan by offering bilingual resources to them. We have partnered with D6 Family Ministry and Seeds Kids Worship, and instead of reinventing the wheel, they will be using materials from these two ministries and translating their content. The Seeds Kids Worship is a website that offers biblically based worship videos.

This team will also be offering new VBS programs that are written with Japanese kids in mind, as well as translating many great books published by D6 Family Ministry. The Culwells will be leading a team of designers, writers, musicians, etc. The Culwells are looking for interns to fill these spaces through the Hope Alive Creative Studio opportunity.

A church is a community of believers in Jesus Christ. At Hope Alive Church, we come together as a bilingual gathering of people to celebrate, sing, and be encouraged because of the change Jesus Christ has made in our lives. We study the Bible together in order to know God and grow in our relationship with Him. Church is a fun place where meaningful friendships exist. Only in Jesus Christ can you find true joy, encouraging community and lasting hope. That’s the church. Whether you are a Christian or not, you are welcome to join us any Sunday!

Please pray for the Culwells:
Pray that the Lord would go before us as we minister to the Japanese people. That God would soften their hearts to the Gospel.
Pray that God would continue to provide for us financially through partners who have a heart to see the Gospel spread in the country of Japan.
Pray that God would send more missionaries to work alongside us to work in Japan.
