Pet Blessings at Loving Kindness Meditation Center, we gathered at Loving Kindness Meditation Center with Venerable Bhante Nagitha to offer blessings of loving-kindness and compassion to our beloved animal companions.
In the Kukkura Jātaka, the Buddha told of a wise and compassionate dog who cared deeply for his fellow dogs. When the dogs were wrongly blamed for causing damage, their leader spoke with courage and truth. Through his wisdom and compassion, the injustice was revealed.
The story reminds us that mettā has no boundaries. Kindness and compassion extend to every living being. Our animal companions teach us patience, loyalty, unconditional love, and the beauty of living in the present moment.
May all our beloved pets be healthy, safe, peaceful, and free from suffering. May the loving bond we share with them become a beautiful practice of mettā—boundless loving-kindness.
Sabbe sattā bhavantu sukhitattā.
May all beings be happy and peaceful.
