Memorial Day is observed in many ways. One tradition is the observances at area cemeteries. We are fortunate to have the Honor Guard/Firing Squad from Forestville American Legion Post 372 conduct the ceremony in our cemetery each year. On Sunday, just before our 8:00 a.m. Mass, Fr. Rex offered prayers and asked for the Lord's blessing on all those who gave their lives in service to our country so we could have the freedoms we enjoy today. Thank you Fr. Rex for your prayers and thank you to the Legion for conducting the military ceremony. The video below unfortunately does not include the beautiful playing of Taps by Jacob, an Algoma high school student. You can see him standing by the firing squad toward the end of the video. Thank you, Jacob, for participating in our ceremony.

Remember to join us tomorrow (Sunday) morning --

BHC, together with St. Francis and St. Mary Parish, will host a dedication of the new display honoring those buried at the historic cemetery adjacent to BHC. The new display area features an exhibit explaining the cemetery’s history, a listing of almost 200 people buried between 1860 and 1911 and a contemplative patio area featuring four memorial benches. This special event will begin with mass with Fr. Antonio Rex Palaya at St. Francis and St. Mary Church in Brussels at 8:00, followed by a blessing by Fr. Anthony Birdsall at the cemetery at 9:15. BHC will host an open house with refreshments and a brief talk about the history of the cemetery and the extensive research to identify those with no surviving grave marker. A photo display of the people buried in the old cemetery will also be featured.
