Today's Reading
Matthew 6:9-15

Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. - Romans 12:19 (NIV)

Forgiveness is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith, and it’s a gift that is essential for our emotional, spiritual, and relational well-being. When we forgive others, we’re not only freeing them from the debt they owe us, but we’re also freeing ourselves from the burden of resentment and anger.

I once struggled to forgive someone who had wronged me deeply. Through prayer and reflection on Romans 12:19, I realized that forgiveness is not just a feeling; it is a choice. When I chose to forgive, I experienced a weight lifted off my shoulders, and my heart began to heal. This experience taught me that forgiveness doesn’t erase the past but frees us to live more fully in the present.

In Matthew 6:14-15, Jesus teaches us that forgiveness is a condition for receiving forgiveness from God. He says, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” When we choose to release others from the debt they owe us, to trust God to handle the situation, and to receive the gift of forgiveness, we experience God’s grace anew.

Today's Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for the gift of forgiveness. Help us to forgive those who have wronged us, just as you have forgiven us. Amen.

Today's Reading
John 6:1-15

When they had all had enough to eat, [Jesus] said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” - John 6:12 (NIV)

My brother and I closed the lumberyard gates and stood looking at the meager inventory. Business had been slow due to the recession of 2009. Now our local economy on the Florida Gulf Coast was even worse due to a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Weary and overwhelmed, my brother and I fervently prayed aloud, asking for God’s guidance and provision.

The church sermon the next morning was on the story of Jesus’ feeding the five thousand. In John’s account, Jesus instructs his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” These words resonated with me, and I was excited to share them with my brother.

The next day, he and I looked for “leftovers.” In a far corner of the property, under cull lumber and covered with vines, we found a stack of metal beams left over from an order years prior. We took the beams to a scrap metal dealer, where we learned that they were worth enough to pay our bills for weeks! When customers purchased the beams years before, it had been a blessing, and God continued to sustain us with the sale of the remnants. May we always strive to be good stewards of God’s provision, letting no blessings be wasted.

Gracious God, thank you for your goodness, grace, and provision for us. Your mercies are new every day! Amen.

Today's Reading

After a series of personal and professional setbacks, I found myself questioning my path and wondering if I was doing enough to fulfill my purpose. Each day my confidence wavered, and I grew increasingly anxious about the future. It was during this challenging season that I turned to prayer, seeking clarity and comfort.

One morning while reading Proverbs, I came across the familiar verse, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” (Prov. 3:5, NIV). These words seemed to leap off the page, speaking directly to my heart. I realized that I had been carrying my burdens alone, trying to navigate my struggles with my own strength. It was a gentle reminder to surrender my fears and to trust that God is guiding me, even if I can’t see the full picture.

As I began to release my anxieties to God, I noticed a shift within me. Peace replaced my worry, and each day I felt lighter. Trusting God in that season taught me that in every moment, God is working behind the scenes in ways we may not understand.

Now, whenever life feels overwhelming, I return to this scripture. It reminds me that I don’t have to carry my burdens alone. God is always by my side, providing strength and direction.

Today's Prayer
Loving God, thank you for guiding us in all things. Help us to trust you fully and find peace in your presence. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

In 2001 I was a study-abroad student in southern France. I was in the program director’s office when I heard about the first plane hitting the World Trade Center in New York City. I was horrified to hear the news, but as I walked back to my dorm, I knew nothing of what was really happening. I assumed it was a terrible accident, but soon I learned that it was a terrorist attack. I was shaken to the core.

It felt strange to be in another country, hearing about an attack on my home nation. Although I knew none of the victims personally, I was grieving along with countless others. I had been in France only a month, so I didn’t really know anyone there. I was surprised by the great compassion I encountered throughout the months that followed. It seemed that whenever I met someone new and told them I was an American they would immediately tell me how sorry they were about the attacks of September 11. They would look at me with caring eyes and real concern.

To experience the compassion of strangers was an amazing thing. I was a foreigner, living far away from my family and friends, but the people I met welcomed me and showed concern for me. All of us are called to do the same for the people we meet, never forgetting that it is Christ who first welcomes us.

Loving God, we thank you for the many ways you welcome us and encourage us. Help us to be caring toward all our neighbors, both near and far. Amen.

The church I attend recently celebrated the 120th anniversary of its founding. At the commemorative luncheon after the anniversary worship service, members gave speeches. Children spoke about their vision for the next generation.

One child spoke about praying for the future sanctuary. I realized that even children can understand that buildings decay, and I was deeply moved that these children were praying about their church building. I too began praying fervently that we can provide a church building for the next generation.

I became a Christian as an adult, so as a child I never thought of praying for the next generation. I was inspired to learn that Sunday school teachers were leading the children in this way.

It is vital for both children and adults to pray and then to take action together for these prayers to be realized. I am the administrator of an area shopping center and want to use my work experience to help preserve the current church building for a long time. When adults take action and model good stewardship, we partner with the faithful efforts of others and the prayers of children to provide for the next generation.

Today's Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to preserve and protect church buildings as places where children can find faith and live it out. Amen.

Today's Reading
Psalm 46:1-11

The constant hum of my refrigerator had become such familiar background noise that I barely noticed it. But then during a power outage, the sudden silence felt deafening. As I sat in the darkness with a flashlight, I realized how much noise usually filled my life — electronics, traffic, and endless phone notifications.

In the unexpected quiet, I heard other things: my breathing, the gentle rustle of leaves outside, and — somehow more clearly than ever — God’s presence. The verse, “Be still, and know that I am God,” took on new meaning. I had read this scripture countless times, but experiencing genuine stillness helped me understand it differently.

We often think of silence as emptiness or absence. But that night, I discovered that silence isn’t empty — it’s full of God’s presence waiting to be noticed. Sometimes we need to quiet the noise of daily life to hear God’s voice clearly.

The power came back on after a few hours, but that experience changed me. Now, I intentionally create quiet moments in my day. Sometimes it’s just five minutes before sunrise or turning off my car radio during my commute. In these quiet spaces, I’ve found that God often speaks most clearly.

Dear God, help us find moments of stillness in our busy lives where we can experience your presence more deeply. Amen.

THIS SATURDAY! Bruceville-Eddy United Methodist Church is hosting a Murder Mystery. Doors open at 6 pm and program starts at 6:30. 103 Ausborn Street, Eddy. All are welcome, tickets are $15 and you can pay at the door. Please DM me so that we will have a head count. This will be a fun filled event, come and join us. We are trying to raise money to replace our HVAC units in our Family Life Center.
