First Methodist Church

First Methodist Church We don’t pretend to be perfect and we don’t expect you to be either. You don’t have to wait to “get your act together”. So just come as you are.

We are just flawed people striving to find out more about God and what His plan is for our lives. Sunday services vary in worship styles from a quaint chapel service, to a traditional sanctuary service, to a casual, upbeat service we call Common Ground. We also have children and youth ministries, adult ministries, small groups, and pre-school.

God has been so faithful and blessed our church so richly in the past 150 years!

We celebrate all the sermons, all the Bible studies, every song of praise, every baptism, every communion, all of the fellowship, every life changed by encountering Jesus. It’s only because of his love and grace that this church still stands, and we hope to honor him in all that we do!

Praise God for 150 years, and we pray for 150 more!

✨Mid-Week Sermon Recap✨

The Traditional Service started a new series about the prophet Samuel! Joey taught that we need a biblical view of prophets rather than experiential or cultural. He started this series by discussing the miraculous birth of Samuel, whose mother, Hannah, was barren. She cried out to the Lord with bitterness, but her bitterness did not make her hopeless. From her example, we can learn to not discount the barren lands where disappoint threatens to break our faith. Instead, we lean on the Lord, we keep on crying out, we let the difficulty build character, and we watch God bring glory from tragedy.

Common Ground continued in their series over the Gospel of John (only a couple of weeks left)! Pastor Shaefer discussed Jesus’ high priestly prayer in chapter 17. Jesus closes his prayer by praying for “all those who will ever believe in me.” That’s us! How amazing that Jesus prayed for you and me! What did he want for us? Unity. He prayed that we would all be one, as him and the Father are one. How do we do this? By following Jesus’ example: being selfless, seeking God, serving others.

Watch either or both of these sermons on our YouTube or through our new directory app! Many blessings, church family, and we can’t wait to see you on Sunday for our 150 year anniversary!!!

Here’s your mid-week sermon recap!

Traditional service had the pleasure of listening to a sermon from Courtney Munson that covered the promises of God’s faithful and loving protection laid out in Psalm 121.

Common Ground pushed on in their Gospel of John series with Pastor Shaefer, learning about Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit, our advocate and the spirit of truth.

Be encouraged that our God does not rest, and He always watches over His people. Not only do we have a faithful God in Heaven, but His spirit makes a home within us here on earth. We are not abandoned! Our God is with us!

Have a great week, and we’ll see you on Sunday!
