Boun Phavet is a profound 3-day celebration of generosity (Dana) where we honor the story of Prince Vessantara (Phra Vet) and make merit together as a community. Yesterday’s Pi Mai Lao celebration on May 16, 2026, at the Lao Buddhist Temple of Denver (Wat Lao Sidaounnaram)** was an absolute beautiful success, and it would not have been possible without the incredible hearts and hands of our community.

A Message of Solidarity and Prayer

The Lao Buddhist Temple of Denver is deeply saddened to hear of the tragic incident that occurred during the Lao New Year celebration in New Iberia, Louisiana, this past weekend. Our hearts go out to the vibrant community of Lanxang Village and the congregation of Wat Thammarattanaram.

We are sending our most sincere prayers for the full and speedy recovery of all those injured, and we hold their families in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

We would also like to extend our profound gratitude to the first responders and medical professionals for their swift action and dedicated care.

As we enter this sacred season of Pi Mai (Lao New Year), Songkran (Thai New Year), and Chaul Chnam Thmey (Cambodian New Year), we pray for the safety and protection of all communities gathering to celebrate. May every temple and every family across the country have a blessed, peaceful, and safe celebration.
