Which Jesus do you follow?
People say a lot of things about Jesus. 2000 years later, every day of the week, someone somewhere is talking about Jesus. He's been the main character of movies, shows, plays- even the cover of Time magazine.
But who is Jesus? Do we really know him?
Some people said Jesus was a carpenter's son. Some people thought he was a prophet. Others thought he would lead a military revolt. At his trial, his accusers put words in his mouth. After his resurrection, the Jews spread rumors that his disciples moved his body. Muslims rewrote his story five hundred years after his death. Today, there are so many voices claiming to speak for Jesus that you can get lost in the noise.
Don't.
When the disciples told Jesus about all the different opinions that existed on who Jesus was, Jesus listened patiently. After they were done, Jesus asked a simple question. "But what about you? Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:15). And it was Peter who answered, "You are the Messiah, the son of the living God." The Bible tells us that the Father showed this knowledge to Peter. He didn't figure it out based on clues. He was an open vessel for God to use.
This year at senior camp, we are going to be diving in to listen to the voice of God. We are going to be studying who Jesus claimed to be, in his own words. That is the significance of red letters- when biblical editors have used red text to emphasize the words of Jesus. When Jesus says "I AM," it is no less than God revealing himself to creation. He recalls the I AM of the Old Testament, echoed through the centuries to the days of the Roman Empire, and now into the 21st century. Scripture tells us that the Trinity has revealed itself to us throughout human history. We can learn the character of the God we serve- his very heart. We hope that you will join us as we glorify the great I AM this camping season.
