January 1 as the start of the New Year was established by Julius Caesar who facilitated the creation of the “Julian Calendar” which was first used on January 1 46 BCE. It’s worth noting that Julius Caesar was a Pagan, making his date a Pagan one.

​The New Year's resolution is a testament to human imagination. Much like the borders of a nation, it is a boundary we’ve collectively agreed upon—a psychological "reset" that exists because we believe in it. This shared consciousness provides a unique opportunity to shed the past and clear space for the future.

Lasting change isn't born from the struggle of willpower; it is born from the awakening of the soul. When we stop trying to 'fix' ourselves through sheer effort and instead align our hearts with spirit, we find the grace to change what we need to.

The key is discovering the truth that already exists, and having the courage to apply it to our lives.

It's not an easy concept, it's hard, it's messy and spicy.
And it takes a lot of inner work. I believe in you and hold you all in love and light.

As a representative and Clergy for the Temple, I am so blessed to have participated in a multi-faith ritual for a few holidays that are celebrated this month at Eastern Maine Medical Center this afternoon.

The Winter Solstice Singers, featuring UU Society of Bangor's choir, Women With Wings, and guests, will present the Winter Solstice Journey Through Song, Sunday December 21 at 4:30 at UUSB, 120 Park St, Bangor.
This will be the premiere of a program of songs written by Women With Wings' music director and UU choir member, Linda Smith Koehler.
Songs and readings will bring us together, take us into the dark for introspection, then into the light for connection and celebration.
Donations of non-perishable food and money will help feed our neighbors through UUSB's food programs.

What your Fylgja?
My understanding is that Norse fylgja are supernatural guardian spirits that accompany a person in connection to their fate. It tends to either be an animal or a human. If it is a human, it can be shape-shifting to resemble different people. It is my belief that a soul can take the form of an animal or human and go along on a journey. Upon death, another person's spirit can join someone else's body, or it can join a family member's for a unique journey. A fylgja may take the form of a tamed or untamed animal depending on a person's true character.
