It is deeply immoral to attack Iran.
All those who cry, ‘peace, peace, when there is no peace.’

Pray for peace, but also
speak the truth.

The president should resign.
Shame on us.

‘Mercy’ is a chief attribute of God in our tradition. But, those who worship power-as-a-god necessarily do not recognize mercy, or their own need for it.
Prophetic words and witness from Bishop Budde today.
May we all be granted her courage and integrity in our own lives, for the time to speak in defense of the vulnerable will come to each of us.

"...she has made it her mission to revive the practice of memento mori, a Latin phrase meaning “Remember your death.” The concept is to intentionally think about your own death every day, as a means of appreciating the present and focusing on the future. It can seem radical in an era in which death — until very recently — has become easy to ignore.
“My life is going to end, and I have a limited amount of time,” Sister Aletheia said. “We naturally tend to think of our lives as kind of continuing and continuing.”

Suffering and death are facts of life: “Everyone dies, their bodies rot, and every face becomes a skull.”

Deep ecology *is* theology.

"...auditory representations of tree growth and glacial ice recession are simulated by algorithms: Cells expand and branch with an element of uncertainty while crystalline structures gradually break apart. The resulting sonic dialog expresses change on the border between the deep history of this place and whatever comes next.

In prehistoric times, the Laurentide ice sheet, a 2,000-foot tall wall of ice, flowed down the Hudson Valley before coming to a stop in what is now Brooklyn, bisecting the borough and burying all that lay to the north. Its arrival 18,000 years ago marked the apex of the last ice age and the beginning of the glacier’s northward retreat, a turning point that formed the hilly ridge, called a “terminal moraine,” that is visible across three boroughs and passes right through the Garden.

Today, industrial carbon emissions precipitate the demise of the last glaciers around the world and the young trees in the walled garden are living through another inflection point for Earth’s climate. As they take root in the rocky soil left behind at the terminal moraine, they will need to adapt to a new and uncertain future."

In this sound installation, auditory representations of tree growth and glacial ice recession express change on the border between the deep history of this place and whatever comes next.

Friends and Neighbors, at the request of our Bishop and following the recommendation of the CDC, Christ Church will curtail all activity as a place of assembly.

This applies to both our Sunday liturgies and other building usage. We see this as an act of solidarity with the vulnerable among us, as we all quarantine a bit in the attempt to suppress the spread of the covid-19 virus. Please visit this page or our web site -- https://christchurchcobblehill.net/ -- for news as we - and other places of public assembly - move to re-open.

In the meanwhile: I recommend some online community for prayer and singing, worship and contemplation:

The Daily Office (prayer and scripture) from the Mission St Clare: https://www.missionstclare.com/english/

Online liturgies - Sunday at 11:15am and other times - streaming from the Washington, DC Episcopal cathedral (experience something new!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be.&v=aUGZLwnLhUU

Prayer, fasting, and alms-giving in Lent and Easter are nothing new; we are called to a different sort of Lenten fast this year, but it must remain a fast in solidarity with the poor and vulnerable, redirecting us toward the One who is the source of all healing, justice, and comfort.

Check in on your neighbors and the elderly to see if they need anything. Support a freelancer or a service worker affected by income loss. As ever: Peace!
