Brooklyn Sunday School Union The Brooklyn Sunday School Union was organized April 8th, 1816, contributing to Brooklyn's reputation as the "city of churches".

The Brooklyn Sunday School Union was organized April 8th, 1816 and have been serving the community for close to 200 years. In its early years it's focus was the establishment of Sunday Schools in Brooklyn. Many of these schools developed into churches, contributing to Brooklyn's reputation as the "city of churches." By the second half of the 19th century the Union began to concentrate on the impr

ovement of the quality of teaching in the Sunday Schools, and in 1829 the first Anniversary Day Parade was held. In 1905 a state law was passed giving Brooklyn’s children a school holiday so that they could participate in the parade. This day of celebration has come to be known as, Brooklyn Day and has become an annual event consisting of services, singing, addresses, luncheons, and a parade for Sunday School children throughout the borough. To date, our Parade is the longest running and only Christian themed parade in Brooklyn. In 1922 the Union bought a beautiful brownstone townhouse, at 125 Fort Greene Place, in which it makes its headquarters today. Join us as we continue to witness for Christ throughout the borough of Brooklyn.
