Shavuot, meaning “Weeks,” is one of the Shalosh Regalim (Three Pilgrimage Festivals) mentioned in the Torah. It marks the culmination of the seven-week counting period (Sefirat HaOmer) that begins on the second night of Pesach. The Torah describes this count in Vayikra (Leviticus) 23:15–16: “You shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath... seven complete weeks shall there be. Until the day after the seventh week, you shall count fifty days.”

Though the Torah refers to Shavuot primarily as an agricultural festival, Chag HaKatzir “Festival of the Harvest,” and Yom HaBikkurim “Day of the First Fruits”  it does not explicitly link it to the giving of the Torah. The connection between Shavuot and the giving of the Torah emerges in rabbinic tradition. The Talmud in Shabbat 86b establishes that the Torah was given on the sixth of Sivan.

Join us at the Greenpoint Shul for an unforgettable holiday experience with unique opportunities for Torah study, and connecting with good people with food, prayer, and good times.

Join us for one powerful, unified Community Seder as Jews and our loved ones from across North Brooklyn gather to tell the most retold story of the Jewish people.

The Seder is more than a ritual meal. It is a sacred act of memory, belonging, and hope. Around one shared table, we relive the journey from slavery to freedom. We ask timeless questions, sing familiar songs, taste matzah and maror, and pass the story forward across generations and across our neighborhood.

Whether this is your first Seder or your hundredth, you are warmly invited to a welcoming and diverse table—one that honors tradition while making space for every voice, every question, and every story.

At the Greenpoint Shul (Congregation Ahavas Yisroel), we are building a vibrant, forward-thinking model of synagogue life for the 21st century—rooted in Modern Orthodoxy and guided by pluralistic, joyful, relevant Jewish experience for all ages. We strive to foster an authentic and inclusive community where all Jews and our loved ones, regardless of background, can use their unique talents and spirit to help shape the Jewish future.

Pesach is the founding story of our people. The Seder table is where that future begins again.

Come as you are. Bring your questions. Take your place at the table.
