Regret Is Not A Conduit To Depression
Our current society has become plagued with mental illness and it seems typical for many of us to carelessly volunteer ourselves without fully understanding what we may be signing up for.
"I'm depressed, my anxiety, I hate it, him, her...these are self talks that we communicate to ourselves and others. Each word, each time it is spoken gives life to the very thing that haunts us. Our words are powerful, more powerful than we may know. This world was spoken into existence and we too have the power to speak our worlds into existence.
Isaiah 43:18-19
"Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert" Our feelings are just that...feelings. Some feelings require a response, others require none. What is important is our ability to decide which is appropriate and exercise wise judgement as we journey through life. When we fail to use response and restraint appropriately and in alignment with Yahweh's plan we can give birth to regret. As regret grows, it becomes a plague, is often haunting and disruptive to our peace. The scripture is our remedy and cure because it points us to freedom, mental stability, clarity and health.
When we approach God with sincerity and repentance, we are greeted with his promises...his word. Yes, we are made free when we feed on God's word....free from all obligations of mental attachment and stagnation from the things that don't serve us. We are free to shift in a new direction, follow a new path, align our faith with the word of God. Free to trust God, trust his process and believe that he is making a way, he's opening doors, he's clearing the path, taking us beyond what we can see. Just believe and follow his lead. Speak life, transform your self-talks and prepare to be reintroduce as a gift of life and to life, that is useful and purposeful.
Speak this affirmation with me: My regret/regrets are not a conduit to depression or mental illness but an opportunity to overcome, win and thrive as I use the word of God to access newness, freedom and life.
**As I meditate further and reflect on the spread of mental illness I realize that the attention that is given to mental health as a one size fits all blanket can be harmful. It's harmful in the sense that it can take focus, empathy and resources away from people who suffer from and struggle with mental illness daily . It is important that we who are able to actively pursue mental health and stability continue to work to sustain wellness so that we may be a conduit for change to those who are mentally unfit/not well.**.
