Brief History of Liberia Ministers Association (LMA)
On November 7, 1996, a few Liberian ministers gathered at the Joy World Mission Church located at 3017 17th Avenue South, Minneapolis Minnesota for the sole purpose of bringing into being an organization of Liberian Pastors and Ministers in the Twin Cities. A motion was made and accepted, with the vote of the following pastors: Rev. Lee K. Ander
son, Rev. Charles Goah, Rev. Kennedy Gee and Rev. Dr. Daniel Brewer. The Liberian Ministers Association was established. Subsequent meetings were held and other pastors joined. The first officers of LMA were: (1) Rev. Charles Goah, Director; (2) Rev. Anderson, Assist Director; (3) Rev. Kennedy Gee, Secretary; (4) Rev. Marie Tolbert, Treasurer. The early days of LMA, the title “Executive Director” was not yet coined. The Liberian Ministers Association was form with the following goals:
1. To create a spirit of fellowship amongst Liberian ministers in the Twin Cities;
2. To form a prayer partnership amongst the ministers;
3. To Support each other in our individual ministries;
4. To help Liberian pastors and churches in the Liberian through special projects;
5. To identify Liberian ministers in other parts of the United States and encourage them to start similar organization. In January of 1997, the LMA filed registration with the State of Minnesota as a non-profit organization organized under the laws of the State of Minnesota. Financial account were opened. The following have served as Executive Director of LMA:
(1) Rev. Charles Goah; (2) Rev. Victor Helb; (3) Rev. Dr. Father James Wilson; (4) Rev. Dr. Josef Howard; (5) Rev. Dr. Francis Tabla. The current Executive Director is Rev. Alexander Collins
The following have served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors:
(1). Anderson; (42 Rev. Charles Goah; (3) Rev. Dr. Samuel Vansiea. The current Chairperson of the Board is Rev. Sarah Kendema. LMA has made many strides over the years under various leadership. We once became a 501 © 3 organization; established a website; meet weekly for prayer fellowship; conduct revival meetings; engage Liberians and the larger Liberian community in various events, etc. In recent times LMA sponsored two missionary trips to Liberia, and currently working on fund raising efforts to construct a public library in the City of Kakata, Liberia. Although we are called the Liberian Ministers Association (LMA), our membership has not been and is not limited to only Liberians. Our membership base currently covers pastors and ministers from other nationalities. If you are a minister or pastor who believes the Bible and desirous to live out its teaching in personal and corporate devotion to the Great Commandments and the Great Commission, we invite you to join us, your brother and sisters, in service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
