Thanks to everyone (even if you didn’t get in the picture) that made this such a fulfilling event. We served 93 people this Monday!

Thank you to the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Brookings, SD and First Presbyterian Church of Brookings, SD for Monday's meal of chicken casserole, green beans, peaches, and cupcakes. 🧁 What a great example of teamwork. If you want to work together to serve a meal, grab some friends or another organization and have some fun at Brookings Harvest Table!

Good news! At yesterday’s Session meeting, we approved a major, fully funded project: bat mitigation! 🦇

A special thanks to everyone who has contributed to our endowment fund over the life of this church. Most of the cost of this project will be covered by the interest earned on that fund, which is a wonderful example of how your generosity continues to benefit our church.

Our neighbors at the courthouse are currently cleaning out their rafters and have discovered—and are shooing away—about 1,000 bats. One of them decided to join us for worship yesterday, adding a little unexpected humor to our baptism service. Some people have already dubbed it a “batism.”

The mitigation project should begin soon. It will include installing one-way doors that allow any bats in our building to get out but not back in, followed by sealing the tiny spaces where they might otherwise find their way inside.

A special thanks also goes to our Building and Grounds Committee, led by Bruce, for the research and work they have done over the past few weeks to develop and present a proposal for the project.

We’re grateful for a solution that is good for the church, good for the bats, and good for everyone who would prefer that bats remain outside during worship! 🦇
