It's never easy when a loved one passes. We share so many memories and life experiences with the people around us. And when one of those people is taken from us, we feel a pain of lose that can be greater than any we have ever experienced.
There is never anything that anybody can say that will fully take away the pain that we feel. No amount of words will ever seem to "make it right". When we lose somebody very near and dear to us, the pain will always be there.
But when the person taken from our lives is a Christian, we can always feel a comfort that others may not feel. We know that our time on this world is fleeting. A mere blink of an eye compared to what is to come.
In John 5:24-30, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted his Son to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out---those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgement is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me."
Living without those we have lost will hurt. But that pain we feel will be replaced with great joy when we one day ascend into heaven to find our loved one waiting and we stand by their side praising God for all eternity. But in the meantime, we can thank God for the memories we have, the love we shared, and the promise of reunification basking in the Glory of eternity spent praising the Lord with the ones we've loved.
My prayer to anyone who is feeling the loss of a loved one is that you find comfort in the outstretched arms of Jesus. And a peace and rest that will bring you through this painful time.

When you learn something that is not only helpful to you, but can also be helpful to many other people, would you share what you have learned? Would you pass on the teachings that have made such an impact on you so that others may grow in this knowledge as well? That is exactly what we should be doing when we learn about the Word of God and the teachings of His Son, Jesus Christ.
If you have a friend who hates, shouldn't you teach them love? If you know someone who is sad, shouldn't you teach them to feel joy? If you know someone who is greedy, shouldn't you teach them to be content? If a person steals from you or cheats you, should you not show them forgiveness?
We should all learn to live our lives as Jesus has commanded. We need to not only teach what we have learned, but also show through our everyday lives that Christ Jesus lives through us. When those who live with hate see us love others, they may learn love. When those who live in fear and anxiety see us at peace, they may learn to put their trust in Him who gives us peace that surpasses all understanding. When people see others being condemned by society, yet they see you showing compassion, they may learn to understand that we are all Gods children, and therefore worthy of kindness.
But it isn't enough to simply show others how you live the way you do. For all they know, you may just be an overly nice person. No, you need to teach them WHY you live the way you do. You need to teach them that there is a God in heaven who loves us. A god who wants us to show love, forgiveness, compassion.
After Christ was risen from the grave, He met with His remaining 11 disciples in Galilee, and in Matthew 28:19-20 He told them, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
The disciples were sent out to teach what they had learned. And to make disciples of all nations. So as disciples of Christ, it is our job to continue the task. To continue teaching others about the never-ending, fathomless power of God. To continue to make disciples of all nations. To teach others that no matter what this world throws at us, no matter what depravities we may be tempted with, no matter what the devil may put in our paths to distract us, we are promised something so much greater in heaven. A peace beyond compare. A joy unimaginable. A love song of worship that never ends.
We have the opportunity to share His love with the world, before it's too late. To tell the world that the snares and deceptions of this life are temporary, but how we spend eternity is up to us.

Whether you know it or not, or whether you fully believe it or not, God has put a lot of work into you. Into your life. Into who you are. Into the person He knows you can become. So do you think that with all the work He has put into you, He would be willing that your whole world should come crashing down around you?
I have news for you. This world is not our destination. In fact, this world is no more than a stop on our journey to our final destination. And everything that happens here is no more than experiences along the path.
So why fear what happens here? When we fear, it's typically over some outside influence. Usually how another person may or may not alter in some adverse way our happiness or well-being in the here and now.
The Bible says in Ps. 56:3-4, "When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?"
I'm sure I've mentioned before what Jesus said in Matt. 10:28. "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."
Life here on earth is only temporary. A fleeting moment in preparation of the experience that is yet to come. How we handle pain, adversity, suffering, and the many other tribulations and downfalls in life will determine where we will be spending our eternity. Be it heaven or hell.
Put your faith in God to see you through the rough spots. Trust in His plan for you. And know that when the time comes, He will make you to enter into heaven where there will be no pain, no sorrow, no tears, and no fear.

Do you go to church? Have you been involved in a church in the past? Have you worried that if you don't go to church you can't get into heaven? I've been a follower of Christ for most of my adult life. And lately have determined that the most important job I've ever had has been teaching others about Christ as often as possible. Do I go to church? No. But here's the big question. Will I be kept from the kingdom of God for not going to church?
This is something that I've been faced with many times over the years. People who have belonged to one church or another would tell me that if I don't go to church I won't go to heaven. That just isn't true. Is it wrong to go to church? Of course not. It's great if you do. For you. But others may not want to, and that's okay too. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to whatever church you feel comfortable with. Or not going at all. It's a matter of choice.
Do you need to go to church for salvation? Not at all. Salvation is found in Christ. John 3:16 say "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." It doesn't say believe in Christ and go to church. Our faith in Jesus Christ assures our eternal life. "He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life" (1 John 5:12).
Another biblical answer to this question is to think about going to church as a good deed or good work. Something you do thinking that it will help hold your place in heaven. Do you really think anything you do other than have faith in Christ will get you to heaven or gain your salvation? Christ already paid your debt. He bought your ticket to heaven with His blood. No works on your part can do any better. Ephesians 2:8-9 makes that pretty clear.
Now I'm writing this not as a means to bash churches in any way. I'm writing this because there may be others, like me, who just don't go. Or others that can't go due to illness, age, phobia, what have you. But if you do go to church, enjoy it. Enjoy the fellowship. Enjoy singing praises to Him. Enjoy the sermon. But be careful not to be drawn there for the wrong reasons.

Have you ever done something for somebody knowing that you will suffer for it? Kind of like the old saying "No good deed goes unpunished". Maybe you gave your sack lunch to a homeless person on your way to work and went hungry for the day. Or maybe you gave a stranger a parking spot you just found and had to drive around for another 30 minutes to find another one. Pretty small acts of kindness right? So you missed a meal or had to burn some extra gas looking for a parking spot. Not much suffering there.
Now imagine you didn't give up a meal or a parking spot, but your very life. And not just for one person, but for all who believe. Jesus chose to die on a cross for us. He chose to suffer for our sins.
One of the first scriptures many of us learned as children was John 3:16. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life". With Easter only a few days away, there are several scriptures I could quote that would bring this Holy and selfless gift to life. But I feel like John 3:16 is an important one to not only base your faith on, but to store in your heart as a reminder of why we are Christians. It not only tells us what Jesus did for us, but why He did it. It tells us that before we even knew who He was He was willing to lay His life down for us. It tells us of the great love that He has for us.
John 3:16 is basically like the first lines in a love story about a person who loved us all so much that He was willing to suffer and die for our sins.
This Easter, you might plan a special dinner with family and friends. You might decorate Easter eggs with your children or grandchildren. You may have even bought Easter baskets for the kids stuffed with toys and egg or cross shaped chocolates. But whatever your Easter plans are, make sure to thank Jesus for dying for you. And of course for the many blessings you have received. And make a vow to Him that you will live your life loving Him, believing in Him, trusting Him and living your life in a manner that will make Him proud to bring you before His Father.

Easter isn't only about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It's a reminder of the promise that Jesus made, not only to be Risen Himself, but that we too can have eternal life through Him. But not only a promise, but a commandment. A task.
After the crucifixion of Jesus and the resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples. And in Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus told them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
He not only gave His life for the sins of man, but asks only that we believe in Him, follow His commandments and spread His word, teaching others about Him and his unfailing love for us, making disciples of all nations.
It's kind of like a business. If you get good customer service at a business, you'e going to tell your friends about it. And they will tell their friends. Pretty soon that business will be booming because one person made a good experience spread like a wild fire.
So spread the Word. Teach your fellow man about the love, teachings and sacrifice of Jesus. Share with them what He means to you. Start your path to making disciples of all nations. And may God be with you in your journey and the Holy Spirit guide your lips and actions.

It seems as though no matter how many times I write this post, something goes haywire with my computer and it deletes everything I've written. So I'm going to make this short, blunt and to the point.
We've all seen the evil depravity going on in the world around us. Sexual immorality, bigotry and hate and the cancellation of God from the public view. But how long will it be before God isn't even allowed in our homes? If you think it isn't possible for that to happen, then explain to me why a biological man can compete in a women's swimming competition. Or how a biologically male transgender appointed by the White House into a high ranking government position can be named one of 12 "Women of the Year" by U.S.A. Today.
Amos 8:11-12 says, " 'The time is surely coming,' says the Sovereign Lord, 'when I will send a famine on the land -- not a famine of bread and water but of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.' "
We need to "Seek the Lord while He may be found," and "call upon Him while He is near". Isaiah 55:6.
The time is now. Tomorrow isn't promised to any of us. Don't let sin in your life or in your heart keep you from an eternity with our Beloved Redeemer.

When I was much younger, maybe in my early teens, and not very knowledgeable about how certain things work, I was tasked with getting rid of a massive tomato plant that had done its best to take over a flower bed in our back yard. Now there weren't a lot of tomatoes on the plant, but some were scattered here and there throughout the vines. My parents had loved tomatoes, and seeing so much green and very little fruit must have been disconcerting to them.
I could have pulled the plants from the ground, bagged them and put them out with the trash. But as I mentioned before, I was a teenager with almost no gardening capabilities and a penchant for getting things done quickly so I could move on to more pressing matters, like hanging out with my friends. In comes my insane idea and our old lawnmower.
Part of my afternoon chore was mowing the lawn. My thought, since we didn't bag our cut grass anyway, was to pull the tomato plants out of the ground, throw them on the lawn and simply mow over them, mulching them into the grass and saving me the time of having to bag them.
It was a brilliant plan, at least in my own young mind. And for a while I actually got away with it. I had aimed the mower so that the mulched up plants would shoot back into the flower bed. Then taking several trips from a pile of soil in the far corner of the yard, I covered the evidence. In hindsight, I actually made a lot more work for myself. But when I was done it looked great, and none were the wiser. Yet.
My mother, having given up on growing her beloved tomatoes, had chosen to use that old tomato bed to plant roses. A couple weeks after my haphazard attempt at ridding the bed of her lackluster tomato plants, she went out to plant her roses and found little green sprouts popping out all over. Upon closer examination, she found them to be baby tomato plants. Originally she suspected that I simply had not pulled out all of the roots. Until she noticed some of those same plants growing in the grass outside the bed as well. From there it didn't take her too long to figure out what I had done.
Once again I was tasked with spending an entire Saturday pulling the tomatoes out of the ground. But as it was nearing the end of the school years and some of my grades had a serious need for improvement, I had to spend all of my free time studying and catching up on homework.
Now this may seem like a story of a typical teenage kid cutting corners, and it kind of is. But weeks had passed and those little tomato plants had grown into much larger bushes. In time, we had large, bright, juicy tomatoes. More than we could eat on our own.
One person planting one or two seeds might provide you with some fruit to enjoy for a while. But the seeds from those few fruits can produce enough fruit to feed many more. Like sharing the Word of God. You might share it with one or two people. You might see Christ working in their lives. But isn't it great to know that the seed you planted in just a few can spread to many more?

How much faith do you have in Christ? Do you fully believe in His power to protect you? To save you? To bring you through the trials and tribulations of everyday life?
We haven't walked in the time of Jesus. We haven't walked side by side with Him. We haven't seen the miracles He performed with our own eyes. So it's easy to imagine why we all struggle with our faith in Him from time to time.
Peter was with Jesus. He traveled with Him. He was there to hear the teachings of Jesus with his own ears. To see the miracles with his own eyes. Yet even he had doubts.
In Matthew 14, Jesus walked across a lake on the water to be with His disciples. Peter obviously believed in the power of Christ because in verse 28 he said "Lord, if it's you, tell me to come to you on the water." So he must have believed that Jesus had the power to make it so.
But then the doubt came in. He was instructed by Jesus to come to Him. Verse 30 says, "But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, 'Lord, save me!'"
Peter had fear and doubt just like we all do sometimes. But believe that just like in Matthew 14:31, Jesus will reach out His hand and catch you when you call out to Him.

We've all heard the saying, "Beauty is only skin deep". When I was a kid I always thought that was a strange thing to say. I mean who wants to look under the skin? It wasn't until I was much older that I realized what it meant.
Matthew 23:27-28 says, "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness".
It isn't enough to preach the Word of God or to act the part. We have to live by the Word of God. The best gift we can give comes from the heart. What we feel inside. If we feel love, we will give love. If we feel mercy, we will show mercy. It's hard to show compassion when you have contempt in your heart.
But how often do we see it the other way around? Have you ever judged someone on their looks? Even a little? I have. In your eyes, is a homeless person just an addict or a drunk? Is a mechanic just a con man trying to rip you off? The list goes on.
When we show compassion to everybody, regardless of who they are, what they look like or what they do for a living, we will feel the love of God grow within us with each passing day.
Beauty is only skin deep, but true love and compassion for our fellow man comes from deep in our hearts, and by the grace of God.

Are you alone? Do you live by yourself? Maybe you are married or have a family, but have no social life to speak of? It isn't uncommon. People get busy with jobs, families, households, or any number of things, and they don't make time for visits or a social life of their own. It's easy to feel abandoned. But a feeling of loneliness or abandonment isn't something you have to live with.
You have a friend who not only knows your needs, but has felt your pain. Jesus himself spent time in solitude. He knew loneliness. He even felt abandonment. In Matthew 26:34, He even predicted an abandonment of Peter when He said, "I tell you the truth, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times."
Peter did, in fact, claim three times that night that he did not know Jesus. He abandoned Him. How heartbreaking that must have been for his Savior. His friend. But Jesus still knew Peter's heart. He knew Peter still loved Him. But Peter was still only human. Imagine feeling betrayed by God Himself. Well, Jesus felt that too.
Not long after Peter disowned Jesus, and the betrayal of Judas, Jesus hung on the cross. And he felt the pain of not only being crucified, but feelings of being abandoned by His own Father, as stated in Matthew 27:46. "About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?' -- which means, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?'"
Point is, Jesus knows your pain. He knows your heartache. He knows you're lonely. He just wants you to know that you are not alone, and you'll never have to be again.
There is no pain that Jesus can't take away. No fear He can't vanquish. No sorrow He can't erase. No tears He can't wipe away. No void in your life He can't fill.

When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live life in a manner that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.
