Friends, to say the past few months have been an adventure would be an understatement. Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and support throughout this time of discernment.
This journey has culminated in the election of the Rev’d Dr. Adam Shoemaker as our bishop, and for this I give thanks to God. It was a true honor to be part of this process. As I’ve been reminding the good people of St. James since the slate was announced, the odds that I would remain their priest were greater than the possibility of being elected—and I’m grateful to continue in that calling.
I’m also thankful for the opportunity to have engaged in this discernment fully and authentically. Friends from around the church who watched the Meet and Greet videos said, “Yes, that’s so you.” I was able to share some less conventional perspectives on ministry and ways we can be church together, while sharing a bit of joy and fun along the way.
I am especially grateful for Pierrette, who gave so generously of her time in prayer, in listening to my many thoughts and walking this journey, and for Lauryn and Eva, as we navigated this process together as a family. To the countless community of friends who shared their wisdom and experience - gratitude!
God is good, and all is well—and will continue to be well—with us.
To everyone who contributed to this process—through committees, data gathering, or by offering yourselves in discernment—thank you. Please continue to keep Adam , Courtney, their family, loved ones, their communities and our diocese in your prayers during this period of transition. Please also remember Bishop and Mrs. Provenzano and their family as they enter the next chapter in their life.
