Our Little Stone Church That Rocks is unique in that we are a small rural church with a vibrant spirit of community. Some of our members and friends come from 30-40 minutes away to join us each week to share stories, laughs, tragedies, and triumphs. We come to share our lives with one another. We have a depth of musicianship that is pleasantly surprising, and a Religious Education program that is stimulating and entertaining for the children.

The new church season is upon us! We're so excited to see you again.

Sunday morning services are held at 10:30 am.

We hold hybrid services (in-person and streaming) as often as tech volunteers are available. For those who wish to stream the service (attend online) a link will be provided via email. If this is your first time attending by Zoom, email the church office at [email protected].

Next week BUUC will hold our annual collection for Helpsy, the largest textile collector in the Northeast! Items donated to Helpsy are either re-sold, recycled, or disposed of responsibly, keeping waste out of our landfills. Helpsy also accepts various non-fabric items, such as jewelry, shoes, and luggage.

We welcome items that cannot be re-used or re-sold, including rips or stains, but HELPSY REQUIRES THAT ALL DONATIONS MUST BE CLEAN, DRY, ODORLESS and IN CLOSED PLASTIC BAGS. If not, we will have to refuse them.

Bring donations to the BUUC basement (blue side door, down the driveway) July 6—11th, from 3 to 7:00pm. Church members will be there to assist you. For more info, email the office at [email protected].

WHAT WE ACCEPT:
-Clothing (Adult, kids, & babies – including pajamas, underwear, bras, socks, slips, & bathrobes)
-Outerwear (coats, jackets, blazers)
-Footwear (shoes, boots, slippers)
-Accessories (Hats, belts, gloves, ties, scarves, jewelry)
-Bags (Purses, totes, backpacks, luggage, duffle bags, etc.)
-Linens (Sheets, blankets/quilts, pillows, curtains, aprons, dish cloths, towels, napkins, table cloths, etc.)
-Sewing/quilting fabric

THIS WEEK AT THE BUUC

BUUC Summer Services ─ Our Summer Services begin next Sunday, June 28th. They are held an hour earlier at 9:30, on ZOOM ONLY, and follow a more informal discussion format. The meeting link will be sent at 8:00am on Sundays only. There will be no Children’s RE programming, and no service on September 6th (Labor Day Weekend). Regular Services and Children’s Religious Exploration resume Sunday, September 13th, 10:30am.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Our Bright Future Golf Tournament ─ The youth organization Our Bright Future is holding their annual golf tournament on Sunday, June 28th at 1:30pm at Raceway Golf Club in Thompson, CT. The proceeds from this event help provide free scholarships for students to attend their STEMing into Sports Summer Program. The BUUC Committee for Ecology and Social Action (CESA) has provided raffle baskets for the event.

Textile Collection Drive ─ Save those donations! This year’s collection will be Monday, July 6th─Saturday, July 11th. The church will be open between 3 - 7 pm so you can bring your old clothing (including slips, bras, underwear, socks) and certain other acceptable items, such as shoes, accessories (including hats, bags, belts, scarves and jewelry), luggage, stuffed animals and linens (including sheets, blankets, curtains, table linens and quilts). All items in any condition are acceptable if they are clean, dry, and odorless.

THIS WEEK AT THE BUUC

Newcomers' Lunch – Rev. Alice and members of the Membership Committee will be hosting a Newcomers' Lunch on Saturday, June 20 from 12-2pm. If you are interested in attending, please let Rev. Alice know.

Choir Practice – This Thursday, 6:55-8:30pm is the last choir practice for this church year. Choir practice will resume in August.

Stone Communion Service – This Sunday will be the final in-person church service before we break for the summer. During this service, each person takes a small stone from the communal basket as a symbol of our shared commitment to one another as we part for the season. Our Zoom-only summer services begin the following week, June 28th at 9:30am, and follow a more informal discussion format. In-person services at BUUC will resume on September 13th (when we will return our stones to the basket).

THIS WEEK AT THE BUUC

Book Club - The BUUC Book Discussion Group will be meeting via ZOOM on Tuesday, June 9th at 7:00pm to discuss My Friends by Frederik Backman. Please feel free to attend. The book group is going on summer hiatus and will meet on September 8 via Zoom to pick our books for the coming church year.

CESA - The next meeting of the Committee for Ecology and Social Action will be Wednesday, June 10th, at 7:00pm on ZOOM.

RE Family Walk - The Religious Exploration Program for children and youth goes on their monthly Family Walk this Sunday and there will be no RE programming at the church.

Choir Practice – Each Thursday, 6:55-8:30pm.

THIS WEEK AT THE BUUC

Stone Soup – Wednesday, June 3rd at 12:00pm. Come catch up with friends and have lunch together. Attendees are invited to bring their lunch. Coffee and tea will be provided. Stone Soup will take a break for the summer and resume in the fall.

Annual Meeting ─ BUUC’s annual meeting will be on Sunday, June 7th, directly after service. This will be an in-person meeting. If you have signed our Membership book, you are eligible to vote on the important items of church business for the upcoming church year, including our annual budget, so please plan to attend.

Games at the BUUC – Our next game day will be on Sunday, June 7th, following both Fellowship Hour and the Annual Meeting. This will be the last one until next fall, and we'd love to have you join us for play and laughter. If you've never come, we typically have about 10 people, and based on the size of the group we decide what to play. We are usually there for 1.5─2 hours. Come play!
