Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma

Diocese of Tulsa and Eastern Oklahoma Welcome to the Roman Catholic Church of Eastern Oklahoma There are 78 parishes and/or missions in the 26,417 square miles of the diocese.

The Diocese of Tulsa is comprised of the following 31 counties in the eastern part of Oklahoma:
Adair, Atoka, Bryan, Cherokee, Choctaw, Coal, Craig, Creek, Delaware, Haskell, Hughes, Latimere, LeFlore, McCurtain, McIntosh, Mayes, Muskogee, Nowata, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Payne, Pittsburg, Pushmataha, Rogers, Sequoyah, Tulsa, Wagoner and Washington. A Diocese is a portion of the

People of God, which is entrusted to a bishop to be nurtured by him with the cooperation of his priests (canon 369). The Diocesan Bishop enjoys legislative, executive, and juridical authority (canon 391). He is the chief pastor and leader of the diocese. He is the principal dispenser of the mysteries of God, and he strives constantly that Christ's faithful entrusted to his care may grow in grace through the celebration of the sacraments, and may know and live the paschal mystery (canon 387). The Diocesan Bishop, mindful that the salvation of souls is the supreme law of the Church (canon 1752), fosters and coordinates the work of the laity and urges the faithful to assume their proper roles in the life of the Church. The Diocesan Bishop exercises his responsibilities with the assistance of the members of his cabinet, through the offices in the diocesan curia (chancery), and through parishes and institutions in the Local Church.

As their time in Washington, D.C., comes to a close, Fr. Leonard Higgins and seminarians Joseph Jones and Evan Hathaway are returning home grateful for a week of faith, formation, and pro-life witness at the 55th Annual National Right to Life Conference.

These final moments from their journey capture the heart of their vocation - Joseph assisting Fr. Higgins as he celebrates the closing Mass, and Evan proclaiming the Word of God during the liturgy.

Thank you to Oklahomans for Life for sponsoring this experience for our seminarians, and thank you for keeping them in your prayers. Please continue to support and pray for Joseph, Evan, and all those discerning God's call to the priesthood. 🙏

📚 David Dean, Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Tulsa & Eastern Oklahoma, recently joined Catholic education leaders from across the nation at Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, for the inaugural Front Royal Education Summit - a gathering dedicated to the renewal and strengthening of Catholic elementary and secondary education.

The summit brought together bishops, educators, scholars, superintendents, philanthropists, and educational partners who collaborated on the Front Royal Statement: Seven Cardinal Principles of Catholic Elementary and Secondary Education - a document outlining the philosophical, theological, pedagogical, and methodological foundations of authentic Catholic education.

Reflecting on the summit, Dean shared:

"This commitment to renewal is providential in so far as it occurred on the same day that the bishops of our country dedicated America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our bishops have called for a renewal of Catholics in their devotion to the Sacred Heart for the good of all the faithful and our country, likewise the members of this educational proclamation called for a renewal of Catholic education for the good of our students and our Church on the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!"

The statement serves as a roadmap for strengthening and renewing Catholic schools for future generations.
