Lk9:3-“Take nothing for the journey,” He told them, “no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no second tunic… Many of us like to be prepared for any journey we take. Planning is usually a part of getting ready for vacations. Here Jesus told the Disciples to plan on taking nothing with them. The journey of life brings us in constant contact with people. Jesus wants us to be unhindered in our involvement with others. Don’t over think it. Don’t over plan it. Just go and let Him use you. So let’s go and be led by the Spirit in our interactions with them. He will empower you to speak into people’s lives. Just go!

Lk9:1-2-Then Jesus called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and power to cure diseases. And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick… Part of becoming a disciple is the imparting of power and authority to act on Jesus’ behalf. Power comes from our English word for dynamite. Authority speaks of a delegation of that explosive power. The Enemy does not want you to understand what Jesus has delegated to you. Because if you do understand it, he knows you will wreak havoc on him and his demonic forces. So, let’s start functioning as true Disciples. Let’s by the Spirit recognize the Enemy’s work and start exercising power over him in Jesus’ name.

Lk8:47-48-Then the woman, seeing that she could not escape notice, came trembling and fell down before Him. In the presence of all the people, she explained why she had touched Him and how she had immediately been healed “Daughter,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”… Ever feel like you want to stay hidden? That was this gal. It spoke of her view of herself. Jesus calls her Daughter. This was a loving, tender reference that Jesus only used with this woman. No other interactions with women did He use this reference. Jesus knew she needed physical healing. But even more important, she needed healing of her identity. So, He draws her out not to embarrass her, but to confirm her value. Are you trying to keep hidden? Are you wrestling with your identity? Jesus is coming to draw you out. He wants you to walk in the identity He has for you. Answer His call. Let Him heal you within to walk no longer needing to hide.

Lk8:45-46-“Who touched Me?” Jesus asked. But they all denied it. “Master,” said Peter, “the people are crowding and pressing against You.”But Jesus declared, “Someone touched Me, for I know that power has gone out from Me.”… Many were pressing in on Jesus. So, there had been many who had touched Him, tho inadvertently. However, Jesus knew that someone’s touch was done purposefully. He felt His miraculous power leave Him and touch them. Have you experienced something from Jesus as you have reached for Him? Jesus is inviting you to speak up about it. You may not be able to define all that happened to you. That’s ok. But others need to hear and be encouraged to reach for Jesus. Take time to tell your story. We need to hear it.

Lk8:43-44-including a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. She had spent all her money on physicians, but no one was able to heal her. She came up behind Jesus and touched the fringe of His cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped… Once again, Jesus is interrupted. This time a woman reached out for Him. She had tried everything to treat her physical condition. Nothing was working. At the end of her options, she reached for Jesus and was healed. Have you come to the end of your options? Has nothing else worked in your situation? There’s always hope with Jesus. He always has an answer, a solution for your situation. Let’s reach for Him. No matter what may be trying to hinder you from getting to Him, press in. Reach for Him.

Lk8:41-42-Just then a synagogue leader named Jairus came and fell at Jesus’ feet. He begged Him to come to his house, because his only daughter, who was about twelve, was dying. As Jesus went with him, the crowds pressed around Him… Surrounded by a multitude of people, Jesus is interrupted by Jairus’ plea. The word beg indicates Jairus came up close and personal with his plea. What are you going thru right now? Jesus isn’t too busy with others. He’s always available. You don’t need to keep your distance. He wants you to be up close and personal with Him. So let’s come. Just barge right in. He welcomes interruptions because He cares for you.

Lk8:40-When Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed Him, for they had all been waiting for Him… What a stark contrast to what Jesus had just experienced. One crowd asked Jesus to leave even tho He had done a miraculous event in a man’s life. The other crowd had been looking intently for Jesus to return. They embraced and welcomed Him. Have you noticed how different groups respond differently to the Jesus in you? Don’t fret if some groups don’t receive you. Jesus experienced the same. Keep letting your light shine. There will be groups that embrace Jesus shining thru you. Walk thru those open doors and let Jesus work thru you.

Lk8:38-39-The man whom the demons had left begged to go with Jesus. But He sent him away, saying, “Return home and describe how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and proclaimed all over the town how much Jesus had done for him… The people had just sent Jesus away. They were afraid and thus content with their chaos. But Jesus wasn’t content. If the people won’t listen to Him, He knew they would listen to this man. Can you hang around Jesus too much? Not really. But Jesus does have a mission that He wants to involve you in. He doesn’t want us simply hanging out at Church with Church people all the time. No, He is sending us into the chaos in the lives of others to bring peace and contentment thru Jesus. So, let’s let the Spirit lead us to the chaos. Don’t avoid it, but let Him transform it thru you.

Lk8:36-37-…those who had seen it reported how the demon-possessed man had been healed. Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to depart from them, because great fear had taken hold of them. So He got into the boat and started back… Jesus just set a man free who had been wreaking havoc on the people of the area. He restored the man’s mind. How would you have responded? Instead of welcoming Jesus with open arms, they asked Him to leave. Wow! They were more concerned about the pigs than a human being. They were more content with chaos then freedom. Jesus loves us so much, He doesn’t want to leave us as we are. Tho we may not understand all He is doing, freedom is better than chaos. Let’s let go of the old and welcome the new. Don’t become content with chaos.

Lk8:35-So the people went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man whom the demons had left, sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid… So Jesus casts the demons into a herd of pigs. We find the man sitting in peace at Jesus’ feet. What’s baffling is everyone else is afraid. The man has sound mind and they do not. Part of the word for right mind we get our English word diaphragm. The diaphragm regulates our breathing and heart rate. How is your internal state? Is it out of control? Jesus can “regulate” your internal state and return you to a proper and healthy rhythm. Breathe in and out under the control of His presence. Come to Him and get “regulated”.

Lk8:30-31-Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss… A Roman military legion consisted of 6000 men. Thus, there were many demons in this man. Some issues people wrestle with are complicated. It may not just be a single issue. No matter the quantity, depth, or magnitude of the issues, Jesus has the power to unravel them. Are you dealing with multiple issues that you can’t break free from? It’s time to seek out help. Jesus has a community of people for you to connect with. He will use that environment to start the unraveling process. Take the first step to find help.

Lk8:29-“What do You want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have You come here to torture us before the appointed time?”… I find it interesting that these demons were torturing these men and were now concerned that Jesus would do the same to them. The Enemy knows his time is limited. He knows there is a time coming when Jesus will deal with him once and for all. As the Spirit reveals the Enemy’s activity recognize it for what it is. Your not a lessor Christian just because he shows up. The Enemy is just trying to take you out and those around you. Armor up and remind the Enemy his time is short. Stand your ground.
